OT - Shannon out at Miami

Submitted by MGoAndy on

Miami's Rivals site is reporting Randy Shannon and staff will be fired tomorrow.  Generally these Rivals sites are pretty good about being on this kind of stuff.

I wasn't going to post this here but this gives me a bit more confidence, so take a rumor FWIW: Talked to a well-connected alum today who was extremely confident not only that Jim Harbaugh would be hired as the next coach of Michigan, but that Rich Rodriguez would be taking his talents to South Beach.  I'm still not overwhelmingly confident, but this is certainly an interesting development.  We'll see how this thing plays out I suppose.

Although I'm not sure if this is true, but I just want what's best for UM.  I feel like the right thing for Mich right now is to keep rich rod one more year but I'm just a fan.  Dave Brandon should know what's best for the program, so lets sit, back grab some popcorn and watch the show, whatever it may be.

today were January 2. Given Brandon's pronouncements re: his time frame for a decision, this has considerable potential to make him look bad--opportunistic and manipulative--if true. Also, he strikes some kind of deal with another school, like some kind of NBA trade? I'm not buying.

It would be so much smoother,  if RR and Harbaugh sort of "switched jobs" as this rumor suggests. Much better than a firing. Blame doesn't have to be assigned. RR says: "It just didn't work out." Harbaugh says: "It's great to be home."

Not only is there no damage to the Michigan "brand-name". But it makes look like we know what we are doing.

I completely disagree.  If a coach EVER leaves Michigan for another job it damages the Michigan "brand-name".  Michigan should always be a dream destination job and you don't leave dream destination jobs to coach at a school with dated facilities who plays in an NFL stadium 20 miles from campus in front of 23,000 people.

Because I don't really have a problem with a sincere rumor, but the more I hear stuff like this, the less I think there's any chance of Rich going anywhere soon being true.

do you think a wealthy angry alum would be a worthy source? Just wondering. I was under the impression that DB would wait until after the bowl. If it did happen, I can only see it happening if RR took initiative and chose to leave. I would hope he isn't a quitter. I will see RR as our coach unless he or DB says differently.

If this rumor is true Miami will be scary... the way this coaching staff recruits florida now miami will be the U again in no time... I think it would be cool to see two west virginia coaches that grew up 20 miles from each other coaching the two biggest schools in the acc.

I am willing to believe the money players in our alumni base is contacting harbaugh based upon an insider post on The Wolverine that was posted earlier tonight (tochman). However, I doubt there is a coordinated firing/hiring between Michigan/Stanford/Miami(that miami).  Sounds more like some pissed off former michigan football player trying to stir some shit up.

as a multi-team trade rumor in baseball.  Both Rich Rod & Harbaugh accept jobs at new schoools next week?  Seems more like wishful thinking on the part of this confident alum...

Miami is not the kind of program that hires other programs' rejects. Even if they might be interested in Rich Rod, no coach would be entertaining job offers while traveling with his team back to their home campus. And Brandon is not talking to anyone about RR's job status before he arrives back in Ann Arbor.

Yeah this is just too rediculous to be true. I can see Randy Shannon being fired, but RichRod going to Miami? I just don't see this rumor coming to fruitition. If it does, then MgoAndy I will create a thread just to posbang you and ask you for more predictions about various future events.

Miami can't afford him. The dirty secret is that the school has indifferent fans and does everything on the cheap. RRod would take a colossal pay cut to head South and would be in no better situation than at Michigan.

You guys (speaking to the anti-RR crowd) are really going to be kicking yourselves if we let him go and he takes a HC job at a place like Miami. He'll turn them into Oregon Southeast.

Let RR finish what he started.

i hope this happens and i hope harbaugh is the coaching god everyone thinks..  If harbaugh comes here and fails then who? I guess give Miles a chance if harbaugh doesn't get things turned around in 3 years.. I'm a big coach rod fan and I hope this rumor is true and he takes denard with him and wins a national championship at Miami. I'm so sick of michigan fans its turning me away from the team i have always loved.

We were sooooooo looking forward to football season so the rumors would stop? Huh? Remember that? Yeah, me too. Weren't those the good ol' days?

The "U" has gotta be a tough gig for a coach... tons of alums like Irvin and Sapp running their mouths non-stop.  A complete disaster for university president.  Did you see that stadium today?  It was half full.

This is a blessing in disguise for Shannon.  He'll land on his feet somewhere.

I think one more year for RR is going to happen, the team has improved despite being very young. The top teams in the Big 10 all senior/junior dominated. I heard Wisc has 24 seniors graduating this year and Iowa loses a ton, OSU is Senior/Junior team. UM was great when we developed players and played them when they were ready and Juniors and Seniors. We basically maybe had one starting freshman and maybe two sophs per side, now this our jr/sr mix. If RR is given just one more year, which will lead to two, we will be a sr/jr teams again playing only top freshman (not 3 stars because no one esle is ready). Let the young 3 stars develop so if they develop they start as juniors not freshman and sophs. Cmon, DB shut these rumors down and emphatically state the RR gets 2 more years. The funny thing is Harbaugh was average last year and we wouldn't have wanted him. now he has 6 seniors on Offense and 4 on Defense and he wins a lot. We have 2 on offense and 3 on defense.
