Sirens just turned off here in East Lansing

but the storm is moving rapidly due east. Watch out in Livingstone or northern Washtenaw Co.

All around Ann Arbor,

All around Ann Arbor, actually. Though it doesn't look that bad, if it weren't for the sirens I wouldn't have thought it could get bad at all. Guess we'll wait and see.

Friendly Reminder...

If you live in the DTE Energy service territory, please report any outages / downed wires to 1-800-477-4747. Please take cover and stay safe - keep at least 20 feet from any wires and assume that they are energized. If I get any information on outages or problems, I can post it here since I get pages regardless of area.

EDIT: It looks like SW Wayne County and southern Washtenaw County might get a slight ding, but nothing like what is going on north of here. All the same, stay safe.

Yes Indeed...

I work at Western Wayne Center in Belleville, so if you're ever out there, just look for the office with a "Go Blue" banner on one wall.

Unlikely I'll be there

I'll be downtown or at the plants mostly, but who knows.

I also got assigned a little side project of putting together a contact list of all the UofM alumni at DTE though since apparently one doesn't exist already , so you might hear about that sometime when I get around to it

The air raid sirens in Ann Arbor are intense. For those in Ann Arbor, according to TWC's radar prediction it's going to pick up at about 8:15.

Isn't East Lansing in Ingham

Isn't East Lansing in Ingham County?  What's with the Sparty obsession????  Geez!!!!

Seriously though, stay safe out there.  After all the devastation in OK, I'm sure more than a few people are on edge.  I've been through tornado warnings before, spending time in the basement, and it is no fun at all.

Finish your basement bro. I have some good memories with the family during severe weather warnings.

If you get bored start the convo off with, “So who would we eat first and why?”

for your avatar alone.

Fortunately, here in Ann Arbor, things are calm weather-wise.

I remember about eight years

I remember about eight years or so ago, the northern lights were pretty low that year. It was about 4am and I saw them on my way into work, and this was out in the Grand Ledge area. They weren't as magnificent as they are in the north, but it was still pretty cool to see the further south.

I distinctly remember the sirens last year

Because my dumb New Yorker self was driving to the gym when they went off and I had no idea what they were until I got a call from the boyfriend telling me to come home. I assume they cover tornado safety in elementary school in the Midwest, but I can't remember if they had something in UM's orientation for us out-of-state idiots.

We don't really have tornados, so no

We just got the typical fire safety stuff and there's enough advance warnings for hurricanes that you're generally not in school when they hit.

This is US-127 a little North of Leslie as the storm passed from WILX in Lansing.

Listen to your county or cities radio scanners

Go to this website: http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/ctid/1307

You are able to listen into diffrent scanners in the United States. The best thing to listen to with sever weather is Skywarn, which is a frequency that has trained weather spotters. You can also listen to the local police scanner, which also gives information about the weather.

Also NOAA weather radio

Certain automotive radios, and almost any scanner available, can pick up NOAA's weather radio service. For the immediate Metro Detroit area, KEC-63 is on 162.550 MHz, and other transmitters covering parts of southeast Michigan can be found in (at least that I can remember) Adrian, Lansing, Clio, and Bad Axe.

From Byron, MI

That was posted by the NWS in Gaylord, although it occured in the forecast area of the Pontiac NWS near Byron, MI (SW of Flint).  It's tough to say with 100% certaintly that it's touching the ground, as there are some trees obscuring the view, but I would say that it's very very likely.  Tough to say exactly what time this picture was taken, but it was clearly several hours ago.
