I'm as much of a Hoke well-wisher as anyone here. If that wide receiver line offended you, it's probably time to chill out a bit.

he wasn't playing hoops but did not see an answer in the article. That seems like it would be an easier path to a scholarship assuming he can lose some weight. Maybe he just doesn't like baskeball?
If he was in shape to play basketball, he might find interest for football too. He might make a decent redzone target.
Shaq was one of the greatest ever primarily becuse he ran the court like a much smaller player.

I imagine if you were 7 feet tall and 440 lbs, this would be true. At 5'10/160, I have never had the opportunity to say this.
Bleacher Report posts some utter crap, but they do have some actual journalists too. This article is written by Adam Kramer, who's pretty good.
As it relates to this store, I take a little exception with the premise of the tale. Coaches aren't giving this kid the short end of the stick. He has little experience, had bone issues, and frankly just isn't all that good. BR's presentation of the facts is very much misleading, imo.

If the kid was good he would play. I played against a 6'8" 350 lbs DT in highschool as a 5'8" 180 lbs guard and completely owned him. I actually pancaked him once. He was slow, weak, lazy and soft. I haven't seen this 7 footers film, but I assume it is the same thing. Just because you're big doesn't mean you have it in you to play. Even if I was a foot taller, I don't know that I would have had the ability to play D1. It's a special combination to make it at that level.

maybe he could be like a D2 basketball center? But at 7' 440 lb, if he's a poor athlete then he's basically useless because defensive ends will fly past him every time

size doesn't always equate to skill
At seven feet and 440 pounds, I am really forced to ask what is in the water at this point, and perhaps that's just the me that is 5'9" and was often thought on the low end of the scale when it came to sports and relative height. It's just weird to see kids nowadays that are less than half your age but are three of you large basically.
They should make a movie about this: The Blindside, pt. 2.

Give Vince McMahon a call. The WWE will always have a home for a 7 foot tall, 400 pound guy with mediocre at best athleticsm.
His career is obviously with the WWE. Send him to wrestling school and microphone school and he can be the next Big Show. Lots of money out there for him. He just has to go where the money is, not where he wants to find it.
