OT: Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell - Boxing Champion
I figure it's a slow night and something to talk about, but former MSU linebacker turned boxing phenom, Seth Mitchell, has just won the IBS North American heavyweight belt.
Not sure if anyone is familiar with his story, but the guy had virtually no boxing experience until 5 years ago when his playing career was ended due to bad knees. Since then, he's turned in an undefeated streak in his career and just won the IBS belt on HBO. I don't know if anyone saw the fight, but he almost got knocked out in the 1st round, but hung in and was able to TKO Chazz Witherspoon in the 3rd round. It was a great fight and I was really impressed how he was able to dig deep after getting jelly legs in the 1st round.
I honestly think that this guy is not that far away from potentially going up against one of the Klitschko brothers for a universal belt. Although he's a Spartan, Mitchell seems to be a real good guy and I'm rooting for him.

I love the dichotomy of your name and your comment.

Agreed. He would have to take a lot of punishment to try and get in close on the Klitschko brothers.
Anyone think Hopkins has a chance?

He seems to be getting on Dawson's nerves which could throw him off. I think Dawson is the better fighter, but Hopkins has a way of winning these fights.

these are two of the most boring fighters in boxing. Neither man has significant punching power so in a lackluster 12 rd fight you never know who the judges may score it for

either klitschko would wipe the floor with him. the first round is all of the evidence you need.
He hits people who can hit back, and is in a boxing ring instead of somebody's frathouse or dorm room. AFAIC, that means he's not a Spartan anymore, and thus worthy of support.
I turned to boxing in HS when my knees went bad lol... and had a lot of fun doing it. Even got to represent M against some other universities. I love stories of guys turned boxer is the point because these days most of the better athletes start in something else. I would root for him because of that, but he's a spartan so I hope one of the Klitchko brothers smashes him.
