OT - Seasons greetings from Pahokee and our community garden project #eating

Submitted by MrSmith on

Happy Holidays everyone on Mgoblog

I would really like to take the time out to thank all of you in the Michigan community here because you all have been a big help with making the #eating project we have been working on into a reality.

I know a garden doesn't seem like much but when the seniors and the youth come out to our garden it is a new thing for them to work together.  If you don't know my hometown Pahokee is a rough place with crime and violence and a lot of issues.  Seeing them working together it makes me feel like I have put a piece of the puzzle into my small community for helping things get better for us.

Being able to do the #EATING project is a blessing and not everyone from Pahokee has an opportunity to give back in this way other then making it in football.

Thank you and if you know someone who would appretiate a holiday video shout out, adult or kid, just email me and we will make it happen.  Or email me your address and I will send out postcard or wristband for you becasue we have a few extra from kickstarter.  ([email protected])

Thank you for your time and sharing what I do because now have a garden and lots of new things coming in the new year.

This project looks like a lot to me!  A community near me, close to East St Louis, has done something very similar and they grow produce for the local food bank and the program has gotten bigger and bigger over the last few years.  A close friend is the adminstrator for it and it really has become a light of hope for a lot of people.

It's great to read about a project like this, doing positive things for folks on many levels.  God Speed, Mr Smith!!

Thanks and thats really good to hear because its a great thing becasue you can change communities with these types of projects.   IF you could pass on my contact information if he has time for some mentoring that would be great.  I have really big goals.

Vincent, it is always great getting updates on your project. You truly are an amazing person. Many talk about doing special things for others or their community, however for most its just talk. it is so refreshing to see someone with as much passion as you make big differences in people's lives. You truly are the embodiment of A Michigan man. Keep doing what you're doing as your community will benefit greatly. It is people like you that make me proud to be an alum of the greatest university in the world. God Bless you Vincent. GOBLUE!!!

and bravo to you for all your hard work in getting this worthwhile project up and running.  I grew up on a farm and I learned a lot about life through all of the work I had to put in to help my Dad out.  Don't sell yourself short, it is most definitely not "just a garden".  You are teaching those kids about patience & the benefits of hard work while at the same time helping bridge the generation gap.  This is no small undertaking. You should be extremely proud of your effort and achievement.  People like you make it easy to be proud to say I am a Michigan Wolverine fan.

You're doing a great thing there and you should be plenty proud of it. The involvement of the Mgoblog community has been the best thing that's happened on this blog since I've been around. If you can, keep the updates coming and let us know how to continue supporting your project. And very happy holiday greetings to you and yours!

That looks like some great soil for planting seeds in -- seeds of hope and seeds of change! Blessings on all that you are putting your hands to within your community! Go Blue #2 !!

As the saying goes, "Give a man a fish; feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish; feed him for a lifetime" - Lao Tzu

What you are doing is feeding these people for a lifetime. No truer title for the project than #EATING

This is perhaps the best donation I have ever made. Thank you for all of your good work and it makes me smile to hear that the people of Pahokke have had such a positive reaction to your garden. That was the biggest concern that I had. Glad to hear they like it.

Happy Holidays to You and Tae. Send some of that sun and warmth up our way.

Come on up to the D and represent urban gardens to the people who need them here. I have a friend who works for Keep Growing Detroit (she is a big Wolverine fan I wouldn't be surprised if she sees this post and her dad will for sure) and I bet she knows a lot of people who would come out to hear about your operation. And I bet you could exchange a lot of good advice!

Keep growing Pahokee!! Let us know what you need!

Congrats on all you are doing to make a difference in your community! I picked out my #EATING shirt tonight when it was time to relax and then saw this post. I  thought that was a pretty cool coincidence.

Keep up the great work!
