Hopefully this is like our "unstoppable Spring game offenses."
Offense looks legitimately good at this point. I doubt they will have much trouble being at least good at the spread in their first year, unlike RR.
Obviously execution won't be close to 100% at this point, but they won't be a trainwreck at the very least. Dunn looks pretty good also.
Having Braxton Miller instead of Steven Threet probably helps.
It seems strange to me that a 2x national champ legend wants to imitate Oregon. Is his genious that he knows who to copy, or is he an innovator?
A lot of injured LBs, so a lot of inexperience over the middle.
I can save you the trouble. The OL is weak and slow, which makes the DL look fantastic even though they suck, and the DBs get lucky every once in a while because the WRs don't know the routes. Oh yeah, and they all put on bad weight.
I'll be honest, Braxton Miller scares the shit out of me. He might not have DR's top end speed, but I think he's more elusive.
I've always thought Denard's elusivity was one of the best in the nation, and a bit overshadowed by his speed. You could always count on him to make at least one guy miss, though it didn't always matter last year as he rarely got in space. Braxton is close, which in and of itself is scary, but he's not more elusive imo.

I don't think he's more elusive, but he's bigger and can break tackles more easily.
Denard is a stright blur, my friend. B. Miller is elusive, but not enough to pass/run for 1500 yards + in a single season.
Braxton just gives me the Troy Smith heebeejeebees where we can outplay them, contain them, and just about sack them for 20 yard losses, but his legs would carry him to a dodge tackle and broken play salvation 30 yards downfield. Smith was easily the most frustrating Buckeye I've ever dealt with. Just hope Miller doesn't improve his abysmal throwing.
FWIW, Meyer coached Tebow and Alex Smith who aren't quite Stafford, Rogers, or Brady. I think Miller's development as a QB is going to take a back seat to his ability to run the offense. I think he will improve, but I don't think he will lighting it up for 3000+. DG on the other hand....

So it is a mix of 1st and 2nd teamers. Braxton is facing the Gray team Defense which includes
John Simon, Adam Bellamy, Garrett Goebel, and Steve Miller on the line
Etienne Sabino, Luke Roberts, and Josh Perry at LBs (Curtis Grant is out for preventive measures)
Bradley Roby, Corey Brown, Orhian Johnson, and Adam Griffin in the secondary
So Miller is facing an D-line with the best overall player in John Simon, a mediocre LB corp, and basically the 1st team secondary (minus Travis Howard).
Defenses aren't allowed to make contact with the QBs, so there's no real pressure. On the other hand, Braxton's not allowed to run, so I suppose it evens out.
Ryan Shazier is going to be that defense's best player, in my opinion. He's a star in the making. That he played the whole game in increasingly poor shape due to injuries really helped last season.
Just to add to Scarlatina's info.- Simon didn't really play because Urban, quote "knows what he can do", so that took away from line strength, and Perry was out with injury as well.

This might be flamebait, but Ohio State gave Mattison trouble with Jim Bollman calling the plays, and a video coordinator coaching Braxton. What do you think is going to happen when they have a competent offensive coordinator and a real QB coach?
That was an unusually good game by OSU (predictable given the rivalry), and an unusually bad game by Michigan's defense. We both know weird things like that happen in rivalry games like that, I wouldn't take much from it if I were you.
What else do I have to take away from last season?
I'll bite. What you have to take away from last season is that your program is dirty and everyone knows it.
competent O Coord? You mean the guy from ISU? he was alright, but certainly wasn't a world beater.
It was a nice game from braxton and all, but in all reality to blown plays from our D accounted for about 120 of those passing yards in that game.
I think Ohio fans who discount Mattison have to also consider the talent we had on defense last year. Kovacs and Heininger started their careers as walk-ons, and there were very few 4 & 5 star recruits who played significant time besides Mike Martin, Craig Roh, and Blake Countess. Last year's team and possibly this year's team are the least talented Michigan teams that Ohio may face the next decade if Hoke continues to recruit like he has the last 2 years.
An upgrade in talent is way more valuable than any offensive coordinator. Games are won with Jimmies and Joes, not X's and O's. If the talent gap between Michigan and Ohio closes, then we will see how it plays out...
is Mattison knows Urban and his offense better than anyone save maybe charlie strong. He is the absolute best d coordinator we could have against meyer. I, for one, am not worried.
Just about everyone on this board has made that observation including a comment below. It's probably overblown. Meyer knows Mattison's defense just as well as Mattison knows Meyer's offense. To say one has an advantage over the other is kind of illogical.
than never having coached against it in practice everyday. That is the point I'm making. He's the best guy I can think of to defend an Urban offense. And he's ours.....
