OT: Saturday NHL Playoff Thread
I know playoff interest might have dropped off significantly around here after last night, but it is still a big day in the NHL. Five playoff games today, with Washington scoring a late goal in Boston earlier to steal game 5 and go home with a chance to eliminate the defending champs.
The Devils and Panthers are currently scoreless int he first intermission and the Rangers and Sens are still scoreless early on. At 7:30 the Blues will try to eliminate the Sharks (I'm curious who Wings fans root for there) and tonight at 10 the Yotes and Hawks will decide to skip the first 60 minutes and just start in overtime.
I already know that no one else is watching NHL Network, so did anyone catch the early game? Holtby has been amazing so far and the Caps have some guys that can really snipe the puck. The Caps are usually similar to the Flyers in that goaltending does them in every year, so if Holtby can keep this up they could do some damage.
I'd rather watch the WNBA until next year...
I'm a wings fan. I'd like to see the blues and yotes end up in the conference finals. After that I'm not sure. I think Shane Doan deserves a cup, with all the junk that's been going on there. Especially after the wings knocked em out last year and they showed Doan not wanting to leave the ice, because it was speculated the yotes were leaving.
The east I'd like to see Ex-wings assists Paul McLean's senators and either the panthers or devils.
Eh I want OV to win a cup and I'll be rooting against any Canadian team and the winner of Pitt/Phili
Florida draws first blood on the effing PP. How did one of the best penalty killing units in the history of the league become awful overnight? The Panthers have 4 even strength goals and one was an empty net.
Lets see if the Devils can do better this time... I hope not! Go Cats!
I wonder if it's something the Panthers are doing or if the Devils have just lost focus in the playoffs (again). The announcers may have a point, too, that once a couple went in it just snowballs. This is one of the best PP I can remember in a playoff series.
Killed that one and put some short0handed pressure on.
I think I just jinxed the Panthers' PP. They couldn't control it in the Devils' zone during that double minor and when they did they were holding it too much instead of getting some movement. Should of still had one goal though, just couldn't finish on the backhand.
Even though he missed with the poke, that had a be a big surprise to see Marty coming out. That is one thing I have always liked about Brodeur: he makes his own style. How many other goalies in the league still use poke checks and two pad slides?
Penalty kill is struggling....take double minor penalty!
Jesus the Devils have been awful for most of this series. I have to tip my cap to Florida, as they have been the better team. Hopefully they pull something out of their butts in the third.
Let's go Sens! I always root for the Canadian teams (except for the Canucks) outside of the Wings. It's almost sad how poorly things have been for Toronto and Montreal the past few years.
But man, I did not think the Sens could even compete with the Rangers. It just goes to show there are no flawless teams in these playoffs, making it pretty wide open right now.
Don't care how good your penalty kill is. Tough to win when you spend half the game short-handed. Bone-headed play killing NJ.
And how about those Sens, up 1-0 on NYR?
Great hustle by Florida. Game over. Devils were controlling play, but not getting any really good shots. Theodore hasn't had to do much of anything today. Just once I want to be able to grow a damn playoff beard.

Neil blindsides Boyle and knocks him out of the series. Obvious contact to the head, but the NHL will not schedule a hearing. Way to stay consistent.
