Hilarious new scandal for the New Orleans Saints. Apparently GM Mickey Loomis had a special wiring device rigged to the seat in his luxury box enabling him to listen in on opposing coaches' conversations from 2002-2004. Hurricane Katrina disabled the system and it was never repaired. The article mentions that this could potentially be a federal crime in addition to obvious NFL rules violations.
OT: Saints GM May Have Bugged Opposing Coaches' Headsets
this almost seems way too ridiculous to be true.
considering the OP condensed a far more detailed story into laughably short "definites," including the notion the Hurricane disabled it, yeah, it is too ridiculous to be true
I don't think it was working...
It is pretty ironic. That little section of the Saints history can be summed up thusly:
Your point is good, but you should have only counted home games:
2003: 5-3 (vs 8-8)
2004: 3-5 (vs 8-8)
when you consider the franchise's history of ineptitude.
how long before they're out of NOLA and not called the Saints? Seriously, their whole organization is in shambles.
of them being called the Saints is getting to be too much for me.
Maybe Wake Forest or Duke will let them borrow their nickmame.
was "Did this give the Saints a competitive advantage?" Almost too dumb to comtemplate.
Anyways. This is turning into the worst scandal for the league since Patriots' Spygate.
....almost seems like a cruel irony now, as other have mentioned. If the allegations are true, then all I can say is that the Saints should have seen this coming when Mickey Loomis began showing up at work dressed as the Angel Of Death. It opens them up for a crushing flurry of lawsuits, I imagine.
He didn't bug anything. What they say is that the old GM had a setup so he could pick up audio from the headsets of his own team and listen in his box. When he left, the new GM started using it to listen to the other teams coaches.
it says that the items were rewired but no one can prove it was even used. with how adamant the Saints are pushing back on it, four letter network might be in a shitstorm
The NFL, NBA, and the WWx are looking more and more similar with each passing year. The NHL has surpassed that and gone straight to Comedy Central.
What goes on in the NFL is much worse then the other leagues. Most fans don't know because the NFL does such a great job hiding it, or don't want to know too preserve the fairytale of what football is supposed to be.
If you ever get the chance watch The Playmakers. It was a fictional show made by ESPN showing the side of football that the NFL doesn't want you to see. They hit everything; sterioids, drug use, long term health risks, faked drug tests, and all the other good stuff. Which is why the NFL muscled them into canceling it.
MGoBlog slams the Freep for use of anonymous sources that condenses a much more intricate/detailed story with no smoking gun or factual base almost instantly...
yet nobody notices the exact same thing happening in this report.
i'm a Saints homer and all but the hypocrisy is palpable.
The most corrupt city in America. They are just trying to fit in.
the Saints moved to Chicago?
...takes exception to your remarks.
DC has to be on that list too, what with a former crackhead mayor and all the elected officials running around that city. That's as far into the political fray as I will voyage on this blog, though.
Yeah, that and the fact congress hangs around DC helps too.
Started doing it in 2004 with Marvin Lewis, I know a friend works their games and monitors all signal frequencies for the bengals home games, he knows the bengals signals and his job is to make sure it's encoded/encrypted and to ensure the signal isn't being stolen by the other teams. He does travel to away games but not all away games. So not sure about that......
If th bengals are employing sound/signal engineers then you know this isn't a one team problem!
It'd be interesting to know who the Bengals "trust" versus don't...I'm sure they go to Baltimore, and I'm sure he's super busy when they travel to New England.
