OT (sadly) - March Madness Day 1 Open Thread

Submitted by Avant's Hands on

I know a lot of people will be at work until the later games, but I know there will be some people watching these early games. All four look like snoozers, but odds are that one will turn into a nail biter. Hopefully it is ND-Northeastern. With my luck it will be Zona, since I have them winning it all.

It is definitely expensive. My cost right now is $136 and that is without movie channels. Yeesh. Some day, when AT&T U-verse is available on my street, I'm really going to consider them. I may also look into Dish Network at some point.

I heard someone talking about Sling on the radio earlier and it sounds appealing. I swear, if it were not for the wife, I'd seriously consider it, but she watches so many shows. I do like having a DVR, though. Without looking right now, I don't know if Sling has a DVR. I'm unsure how it could since it's a streaming service, but technology these days can do just about anything, so I won't be surprised if there is a recording device.

Could probably hook up a TiVo or get a device that'll control internet streaming over IP but without requiring a PC etc.

Essentially the same as a satellite or Cable box with built in DVR that just hooks up to ethernet(or wifi), and lets you flip channels or DVR, if I was dish, I'd partner with someone for the majority of profits.

To me today is like an awesome party that you werent invited to.  Sorry but I really dont give two shits how fantastic the party is if I dont get to go and enjoy it.

So I'm at my desk at work and I'll check ESPN for scores but I didnt fill out a bracket this year and other than rooting for whoever is playing Kentucky I dont give a crap who wins this year.

Dana Jacobsen...so THAT is where she went. She kinda disappeared for a while.

Also, those ND uniforms, though. Holy shit, they are awful.

but this is sort of like Bye Week during football season. It's nice to be able to sit and enjoy the action without that feeling of nervousness-excitement-terror that comes when you have a huge game coming up.

Sucks we missed it. But I'm going to enjoy watching the tournament and just rooting for chaos without having to be stressed out.

I checked the TV schedule and found the Tru TV channel, but I have no interest in any of the games today. I'm not sure I care about any tomorrow, either. Yeah, I could tune in to root for State and Staee to lose, but I've got better things to do. I didn't even fill out a bracket, but I stopped doing that years ago, for the same reason I don't play the lottery.

my man.  There is nothing like the 5:00 PM pass out during March Madness, waking up in the middle of the night so mad because you missed the night games where something cool did happen.  I would just sip until the 2:00 batch of games.

It was the adrenalin! I need guidance!  First time I've ever taken these 2 days off from work/school to devote to this special special time.

there.  If you can, stick to bottles, the big drafts will absolutely kill you this time of year.  And eat, even if is just some onion rings or something.  You will get to a point where you won't want to kill your buzz with pesky food but getting something in your stomach is a crucial element on these days.

Everytime I've had ND go far in the tourney, it's come back to bite me. But I they match with UK too well for me not to want to see that matchup happen. Now Georgetown is definitely the team not to trust no matter what in the tourney.

of Michigan's 16-16 season?

I enjoyed watching Michigan scrap, right up until the end.

But where Michigan's season really cratered my interest was in following the rest of college basketball.

How would Michigan match up with Duke, Arizona, or Villanova, let alone Kentucky?  This year, the care factor was zero since I knew it wasn't happening.

It's been a while since I've known so little about the rest of college basketball come Tournament time.  No eyeball adjustments this year for me, I had to rely solely on odds/futures/power  ranking sites to make my pics.  (Plus a few guesses at where the traditional names would be overrrepresented by pool participants.)
