Greed is good.
The nutty Michigan coverage isn't so much about Harbaugh as it is a signal to the Big Ten that Fox wants to party.
Greed is good.
What's the average annual budget for athletics at your typical division one school? I can't imagine spending 10-20% of an entire athletic budget on ONE man. . .
Small price to pay to obtain that other 80-90%
money (I figure he has more than enough) but his ego is limitless; and it would be easier to be the best in the Big12 and go undefeated than in the ESS-EEE-SEE.
If he built anything like he has at Bama it would be a walk in the park the top seed in the playoffs every season.
You can bet he'll milk Alabama for more money. I'm sensing a contract extension in the works.
Every move he made from MSU to the Dolphins was a step up. Then he realized he made a mistake and wanted to be in college football. He got a job at Alabama, and has been there for 6+ years. Maybe he goes, but it would surprise me.
He didn't go from MSU to The Dolphins. He went from LSU to Dolfins.
He'll probably make Stoops his D.C. and lure Urban Meyer away from Ohio State to be his O.C.
But probable none the less
He's not leaving Bama. What incentive does he have for leaving? He has the most dominant program in America's most dominant conference. He's won 3 of the last 4 national titles and is primed to win a 4th in 5 years. Whatever Texas can pay him, Bama will match and then some. Texas is a premier program, but so is Bama, and Texas has nothing to offer Saban that he doesn't already have in spades.
What incentive does he have to go and rebuild a program from scratch when he can stay at Bama and keep dominating year after year, and have the top recruits pick him? He doesn't have to recruit anymore. His results speak for themselves. The only situation I could see him leaving for is if Belichek retires within a couple of years and asks Saban to take over for him.
And even then, I think Saban learned his lesson from being with the Dolphins. He's at his best when he rules every aspect of his team with an iron fist, and he can't get that in the NFL with scouts, owners and GMs breathing down his neck.
As I said, whatever Texas can pay Saban, Bama will match and then some. Besides, Saban is making so much money now that any more would, to him, likely just be overkill.
like collecting rings, $$$ is about keeping score. Bet your butt that Saban wants to be the top paid coach in addition to all the ncs he has
The supposed talk occurred before the season
Pretty sure Saban shot it down today on the radio.
Because coaches, especially Saban, never lie.
He's absolutely hands down not going to be the coach at Alabama.
Texas has the largest athletic budget in America. He can make the most money there. And it's not like Mack Brown isn't landing great recruits. He's just a great underachiever. Saban would be fine at Texas rebuilding the program.
Will he leave Alabama? Oh God, no. He has a friggin statue of himself on that campus.
Saban was approached last year by TX. He said, and challenges can make people do crazy things, that he and Mack were great friends and he was just too damn old to make a move. I have no doubt if this were to come about, he could, with their crazy high school football talent, put TX right back where it was, probably much faster than he did at Bama inasmuch as the talent needed is on roster already and all future talent is only a visit away. He might have to leave the state to get a great CA qb. This usually works out well and is often the missing piece. CA qbs, for some reason get the best h.s. coaching in America.
How much faster could he do it? Second year Alabama was 12-0 in the regular season and third year they won a national championship after going 14-0.
Maybe sarcasm was omitted, but not inentionally. sorry bout that hoss.
Bama has a nice shoreline and you are actually not that far away from civilization. You got a bit more ground to cover in TX. If I were him, I'd stay put and chase the Bear. No one does it better than him right now, and Bama will match anything they offer. Do you really think Les could have had LSU to the point he did so quickly w/o Saban? Makes me wonder just how little they have to offer in E. Lansing, or is it possible there was a moratorium on NCAA infractions put in place during his time there. That is the funniest thing imaginable about Saban to me anyway. They had him and couldn't make it work, at least to his demanding specs. Auburn would have.
Fair enough. I was just thinking that Saban turned around Bama on a dime. Of course the 08 recruiting class (including Julio Jones and Marc Ingram) and the 09 class (Trent Richardson etc) helped greatly.
I think Texas High School quarterbacks makes better college and nfl players. Stafford, Luck, Brees, Tannehill, Ponder, RGIII, and Dalton are all products from Texas HS.
There's a very good chance both programs are looking for new coaches this year.
I'm betting on Patterson from TCU going to Texas. he knows the state. Winning history, and he had been linked to many job openings at schools that were higher in the conference food chain than TCU.
Peterson to USC. Been sitting at Boise for awhile. We obviously know he wins. plus he's been rumored for some bigger jobs in the past.
On a side note from that. Meyer to Notre Dame after 2015. He has always said Notre Dame was his dream job. Plus Braxton will be gone. And I don't see the Notre Dame faithful staying enamored with Ol' Purple Face.
He could have easily had the job after they fired Charlie Weis, and Notre Dame is either a lateral move or a step down. It could happen, but I just think the odds are pretty low.
But that would be hilarious.
agree to retire (kill) "ESS EEE SEE" ????
SEC would be just fine. Thanks
Oh, and lets also kill "MOAR", that would be great.
This article also said that Texas is talking to Saban, doesn't say anything about the other way around.
No indication that Saban has been involved in anything.
