I said I thought this was a possibility. For whatever reason, I think he leaves Bama (I have no knowledge of the situation, purely a guess). The guys seems to really have something to prove, or is just restless by nature. I think his ego compells him to go.
September 19th, 2013 at 8:39 PM ^
Doesn't the report say that the meeting was back after the national championship game? So it took place 9 months ago.
September 19th, 2013 at 8:45 PM ^
Saban has also released a statement saying he's too old to go elsewhere.

And I think he's right. He's 61 and has won multiple titles at Alabama. He doesn't have to worry about job security or building a new staff and a new program and winning over a new base of fans and alumni. Most of college football's legendary coaches retired before they hit 70, and my guess is that he will as well.

answer right quick: Who has the Flight Aware App?
September 20th, 2013 at 1:22 AM ^
The plane's warming up on the tarmac.
September 19th, 2013 at 9:16 PM ^
He alao said he wasn't leaving LSU. And then said he wasn't leaving the Dolphins.
September 20th, 2013 at 9:11 AM ^
And Toledo...
September 20th, 2013 at 9:57 AM ^
I'd leave those places in a cocaine heartbeat too.
September 20th, 2013 at 9:13 AM ^
he is Nick Satan. He will live forever.
September 20th, 2013 at 9:22 AM ^
"I'm too old" is coachspeak for "If the NCAA brings the hammer to Tuscaloosa, I will be in Austin faster than you can say, "$10 million a year."
September 20th, 2013 at 10:17 AM ^
I think Saban was planning to go to Texas, but when he tried to call Dodds to accept the job Dodds was out on a sailboat.
September 19th, 2013 at 9:31 PM ^
I didn't read it. As I said above, just my epinion, man.
September 20th, 2013 at 11:38 AM ^
It is simple. Get a raise from Bama. Make no sense for someone who is doing very well to make a lateral move. But might put a scare in bama's booster to give him a raise.
September 19th, 2013 at 8:34 PM ^
Second, this was rogue regents at Texas talking to Saban's agent, not Saban talking to Texas.
Third, why would Saban want to leave Alabama?
September 19th, 2013 at 8:39 PM ^
Because it's in Alabama.
September 19th, 2013 at 8:57 PM ^
is in Texas.
September 19th, 2013 at 8:59 PM ^
Texas is in Austin, not Texas.
September 19th, 2013 at 9:03 PM ^
The areas I listed below and their metros are really not that different from any other area in the country. As long as you're not in the sticks of TX, you're fine.
September 19th, 2013 at 9:41 PM ^
Like Saban is aware of his not-football related surroundings anyway...although he would help keep Austin weird. That's for sure.
September 19th, 2013 at 8:59 PM ^
Austin is one of the best cities in the country. Houston, Dallas and SA are also all great cities with great suburbs. I'd live in TX in a heartbeat.
September 19th, 2013 at 9:21 PM ^
No. Austin is the only place in TX that isn't the worst.
September 19th, 2013 at 9:26 PM ^
I've been all over TX but spent the most time in Dallas. It's a ton of fun.
September 19th, 2013 at 9:37 PM ^
Yeah, but you said San Antonio was a great city. Which.... it is not.
September 19th, 2013 at 10:17 PM ^
in particular because of all the historic sites in and around the city. There are five old beautiful missions around, including the Alamo. Not to mention that San Antonio has a ton of art museums. Now Dallas, I don't get that one. It's downtown is sort of non-descript. Other than the aquarium, and the art museum, there is really nothing to do there. Granted, I spent only two days in Dallas.
That being, I am not sure if I would want to actually live in San Antonio. It is fun for a visit. I find most of the big towns in Texas sort of of the non-descript massive crawling suburbia types.
September 19th, 2013 at 10:26 PM ^
It's a good night life scene, if you're into that sort of thing. I mostly listed SA among the others to point out that TX isn't all backwoods hicks. Like I said, it's mostly like other cities/metros in those areas. Couple that with no state income tax/generally cheaper COL and it's a win-win. Dallas, in my experience, is a cool city for young professionals as well. Just my 2 cents.
September 20th, 2013 at 12:12 AM ^
Austin is a very nice modernized city. Dallas and San Antonio are both pretty nice also. Houston on the other hand is not my favorite place in the world. It's pretty slummy.....and my in-laws live there.
September 20th, 2013 at 1:24 AM ^
No income tax but people make like $9.13 an hour on average. Cost of living is less but so is the pay.
September 20th, 2013 at 9:41 AM ^
see earlier comment about young professionals.
September 20th, 2013 at 2:15 PM ^
There are some serious bucks to be made in the oil field industry. Also, the medical field is very good in Texas. What drives the average income down are the numerous Hispanics that work for less in the lower income positions.
September 20th, 2013 at 2:29 AM ^
That being, I am not sure if I would want to actually live in San Antonio. It is fun for a visit.
kind of like an amusement park
September 20th, 2013 at 7:40 AM ^
I have spent a lot of time in both Dallas and San Antonio for work. I think Dallas is one of those cities that is not "touristy" but is very, very nice to live in (think Grand Rapids). San Antonio strikes me as more touristy but honestly I would live in either city in a heartbeat.
September 20th, 2013 at 2:17 PM ^
I love it outside of May thru August. If you can survive the summers it's a great place to live.
September 20th, 2013 at 2:44 AM ^
I'm with Omar. Austin is incredible; Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth, and San Antonio...no. Just no. El Paso/Odessa are each interesting on a drive-through to SoCal, but, yeah, Austin is not like the rest of Texas. Austin is an oasis of awesome in a desert of not-awesome.
September 20th, 2013 at 9:14 AM ^
Houston sucks.
September 19th, 2013 at 9:02 PM ^
He is climbing the latter of insufferable fan bases: MSU--->LSU--->Bama--->Texas
September 19th, 2013 at 9:04 PM ^
So he'll wrap up his career at Notre Dame?
September 20th, 2013 at 12:40 AM ^
Well Played!
September 19th, 2013 at 10:05 PM ^
Austin ain't Texas.
September 19th, 2013 at 11:24 PM ^
What's wrong with Texas? Just moved around 2 years ago from SoCal and I personally like it better.
September 20th, 2013 at 1:26 AM ^
To be honest, that's not saying much. Any place is better than So Cal.
September 19th, 2013 at 9:08 PM ^
And a fair amount of girls I've met from Alabama - either Auburn or Alabama fans - look fantastic in sundresses, which are worn quite often
September 20th, 2013 at 1:27 AM ^
I bet they'd take off those sun dresses mighty fast for John Stamos.

This reportedly happened soon after Alabama won the National Championship back in January:
"Regent Wallace Hall and former regent Tom Hicks reportedly were on a call with Nick Saban's agent, Jimmy Sexton, after an initial proposition from a person Hall refused to name. The report then adds that Brown was told about the call a few days later, but insisted he was not yet ready to retire, effectively ending the discussions there."
September 20th, 2013 at 9:39 AM ^
This happened in the off season, and UT regents asked Mac Brown if he would step down, and he refused.
In my opinion, there are only a few schools Saban would even consider, and I believe Texas and USC to be in that group. Sure he's had terrific success at Alabama, but if someone tripled (hypothetically) your salary and allowed you to bring your entire staff with you, you'd have to at least listen.
September 19th, 2013 at 8:35 PM ^
Why would he go to texas? Money isn't an issue, lateral move.
September 19th, 2013 at 8:37 PM ^
To prove that he can do it.
September 19th, 2013 at 8:38 PM ^
He did it with Bama.
September 19th, 2013 at 8:39 PM ^
After winning 3 out of 4 national titles, he probably needs a new challenge.
