OT-rushing the field
Houston is #17 and they just beat unranked Texas Tech. Does anyone else find it odd that the fans rushed the field? Am I being too arrogant in saying that if you can't act like a top 25 team, then you shouldn't be ranked?
My bad if this is too OT, I just hate field/court rushing!

It's Houston. Houston hasn't been good in 20 years. Houston is celebrating being back in a position to dominate those schools that abandoned them when the Big 12 was formed. Get off Houston's back, at least for this year.

Houston has been HIDEOUS since Andre Ware left. They finally have something to cheer about so I don't blame them. I hope we Michigan fans never have to know that low.

that is why I was asking. Thanks for the perspective. Maybe I should go to bed. I am being a DI*K!

Only if it's warranted, like against Duke in basketball last year. Or this year in late November. I expect goal posts to be ripped down, no matter what. :)
On a side note, during the basketball game against MSU last year, some fan came up to me and said, "I can't wait until we rush the court!" I'm like, "Yeah, MSU's ranked, but we're better than that, no need to do it."
Don't afford them undue respect.

I was going for in the OP:

I expect goal posts to be ripped down, no matter what.
The posts will be safe. They're planted deep in the ground and basically can't be removed without construction equipment.

if we win the Big 10 championship this year (note: I'm not predicting this - I still expect an 8-5 year), I'm getting my ass on the field after the OSU game, even if I'm the only one. It'll be my last game in Michigan Stadium for quite some time.

Even if we lose the next 7 games, and beat OSU, I'm rushing the field, and you should too.

We rushed the field in 2003 and it was awesome. If we beat them this year, especially if it costs them a Big Ten title or wins us a share of the Big Ten title, the police can arrest me if they want because I will be dancing on the 50.

Good call, who the hell cares, right?
We'll have beaten O$U for the first time in 5 years! I'd like to think the administration will be feeling the same exuberance.
I wish I could be there!

The security just sort of tried to make sure no one got hurt, no fights, no vandalism. They didn't even try to stop people from jumping the wall and rushing the field. Of course there were thousands of people on the field so it is not like they had a choice. ;)

What was funny was Howard King trying to "reason" over the PA that the students should clear the field: "Folks, you are not going to appear on TV, if that's what you're after..."

That was the first time I can remember Houston getting a prime time game on any of the ESPNs. Even though they were ranked and Tech was unranked, that was a huge win for their school. I have no problem with them rushing the field after a huge victory, that will most likely put them in the top 15, and has them, as of now, having a chance to be this year's BCS buster.

houston is now this years east carolina. a few impressive wins that are sure to be followed up by comments like 'they'll be favored in every game they play from here or out!' and then they will lose 2 or 3 games in conference

If I could have, I would have rushed the field on Sunday after the Lions' victory. Man, it feels good to say that.

I'm with the OP on this. It's a much bigger slight to an opponent to win a big game and then just cheer and act like it's just another win. It's always better to act like you've been there before.
I think rushing the field/court is only appropriate for the end of the season if you've won something significant. For instance, if we beat OSU this year and win a share of the Big 10 title, that is worthy of rushing the field. Rushing the court at Crisler after we beat MSU gives credibility to the notion that we're aspiring to be them. This may actually be the case, but you should never show it.
NEVER let your rival see your soft spots.
