OT: Rumor - Mike Sherman fired at A&M. Kevin Sumlin leading candidate.

Crazy year for coaching turnover.  Wonder if Rich Rod is regretting jumping at the Arizona job so fast.

Ohio State, Penn State, UCLA, Arizona State, North Carolina, Illinois, Arizona, Kansas, Ole Miss, & Washington State.  Now rumored Texas and Texas A&M.  Wow.

Most people saw those positions opening up anyway. The only shockers are Texas and TAMU. I doubt Rich Rod would be a top candidate for those positions. Oh and Kansas is a shocker, but that's only b/c Gill put in two years there. I can't see Rich Rod thinking twice about the Kansas job. I think he made a good decision with Arizona. They have a senior spread qb waiting in the wings to take the reigns this fall which should enable his offense to get off to a better start than here.

Most of the jobs opening up are either below Rodriguez's level (Kansas, for example) or above his level (OSU, Texas, PSU, maybe even TAMU).

I think RR and TAMU seem like they are on right about the same level......  No one really knows what to expect out of either the coach or the program.  Plus, I see RR fitting in quite well in the recruiting footprint of the SEC.

With that said, the Pac 12 south is a hot mess.  There are less obstacles and expectations at Arizona.  He's probably better off.

Still a lot of good young talent on that team, and you don't even have to bother recruiting outside your own state to get good talent (even with Texas, LSU, and the Oklahoma schools (not to mention TCU and Baylor) all competing for the same kids). Also would have been a chance for RichRod to not drop too far in terms of program profile for his next job after UM.

But I think you're right Bosch -- less obstacles and expectations in Arizona. Although A&M has been much more successful in basketball than football lately, it is still a football school first and always (this is Texas, after all!). The expectations are high, probably irrationally so, especially given the competition they'll now face in the SEC West. And A&M's another tradition-rich program where RR would've been parachuting in w/out much of any idea about the program and school's history, traditions, etc.

Houston fans would be pissed if Sumlin went to TAMU, which is just outside Houston.  I can't see him doing that, unless he really just loves the area.  It does make sense for TAMU to pursue him, though, given the obvious geographic familiarity.

I hear UCLA is on the Sumlin-or-bust bandwagon right now, so that should be interesting.  He's definitely a more accomplished coach than Kiffikins.  It'd be nice to see UCLA competitive again, if for no other reason than to knock usc down a peg or three.

But yeah man, crazy year in the BCS-school coaching ranks.
