Sounds like all of Arizona isn't "all in"
OT: RR's Welcome: Blasted in the Tucson Weekly
ADIDAS had a new commercial with the tag line ADIDAS is all in. So we got that going for us
A Free Press West.
is not limited to Michigan.
Those who can - do.
Those who cannot do - become journalists and tell everyone else their opinions about those that can
And those who can't become journalists teach p.e.!
Those who can't become journalists become magna cum laude at OSU.
I teach PE and I take a great deal of pride in what I do and the kind of program we have going. I understand the meme, but it's not everyone.
+1. PE is as important now as it ever was. I hope you continue to teach the benefits of an active lifestyle and send your best to wear the winged helmet! Thanks for serving the kids.
did a double-take at your avatar. Same lady? /no offense intended
what's next? SRkass posting nudies?
Yup same lady. Wife.
And I'd like to think I'm fair when reporting news.
catch a break. He hasn't had time to commit a gaffe in Arizona and is already being bashed in the media.
This has nothing to do with winning and losing, though. Call Three and Out biased all you want, but most of those practices were open, Michigan found a very slight, technical issue and the NCAA sided with RR. There's not really any consensus that RR is anything other than an ethical guy who cares about his players.
amazing what the media can get away with.
Don't be such a homer. The article is factually accurate. The school admitted to major violations. They weren't horrible. But they were violations.
It may be factually accurate, but those facts are presented in a biased way so as to lead the reader to a conclusion that isn't fully reflective of the situation.
I'm sure this journalistic entity has the best interests of Arizona and its student-athletes at heart by publishing this attack piece. Maybe they think Zona should have pushed harder for Urban Meyer.
The difference this time is that Arizona already has low expectations after 3 winning seasons in the past 10 years. he'll be great
Freedom of the press and all that, but malicious defamation of character by way of deliberate omission of critical information, combined with borderline libel? Not okay.
Could have been written by an ASU homer fearing a beatdown from UA for years to come.
"Kind Of In For Arizona"
The senior executives in the marketing group would like to speak with you...
I hate when people make breach of contract sound like some sort of crime. What a joke.
to mention that WV is breaching its contract with the Big East....
But there are parts of the story that is factually accurate, but some folks do not like that version. Oh well. Good luck to him in Arizona.
I give you Rich Rod's latest nemisis - Jimmy Boegle - editor Tuscon Weekly
I for one will boycott this charlatan and his newspaper establishment immediately!
Yo, fuck that guy.
I'll give them a break since it's Arizona, otherwise known as the Cradle of Hell.
Rodriguez is ten times better than that asshole Mark Stoops.
ROSENBERG PART DEUX
Sheesh...... RR just can't catch a break anywhere. He went about as far away from Michigan as you can possibly get and is still getting dragged through the mud.
I really feel for the guy.
What about Mike Stoops?
ever hang out with Craig James?
Now that RR's the coach at another school, I no longer care what he has to go through while being paid $2M per year
How many douchebag Drew Sharps are there around this country?
It is some weekly, alternative newspaper on par with Detroit's Metro Times. So it's given away from piles on the floor of select stores. I'd hardly give this any credence as to how RR will be treated in AZ. I think everyone needs to settle down a bit.
right on the head. I'm not reading Metro Times or Real Detroit for extensive, in depth sports coverage. Also the fact that his bio says he's the editor since 2003 and likes tequila...enough said.
Including the comparison to the Metro Times. What a joke.
"Jimmy Boegle"? Fer real?
After he starts winning games, they will all love him. Most of the national media think it was a great hire. The Tucson Weekly hardly sound like a prominent publication.
RR has a douchey quality that the media doesn't buy. His corny why not Arizona speech gave me flashbacks to some bad days. I think RR will fail at AZ but I hope I'm wrong because he's not a bad guy just IMO an overrated HC who should probably just be a coordinator at a spread program.
Don't underestimate RR...he will fail at Arizona.
The media is such a friggin joke, it's unreal. Amazing how wrong and distorted they present something as benign as a football coach hire.
What are you mad about? Everything is true.
SEVERAL MAJOR VIOLATIONS!!!
needs to read some mgoblog. everything you could ever want to know about richrod from 2007-2010!
I can't believe Stoops was there 8 years. Seemed like he just was hired a couple years ago. Hell they went to a Bowl game last year, I was bored and drove down to SA from Austin and watched them get killed by Okie St.
Zona/UM would be an interesting Rose Bowl
I hope he does well out there, there are a few good teams to root against out there so it would be nice to see Arizona have some sucess.
One thought: It baffles me how the complete dysfunction of WVU and their athletic department and the governor go completely ignored in story after story after story about RR and why he left in the first place. He didn't leave because he was chasing big money, he left because he was surrounded by paranoid children in adult bodies with gigantic egos.
the goats and sheep
The roaches resurface in the desert. Just win Rod. It'll all go away.
it in for RR. Probably the folks in West Virginia.
Won't be long before the Arizona Republic starts digging up the condo lawsuit and crap like that.
Looks like Rich is about to have another uphill battle ahead of him. If he can find someone to run a good defense and the right QB I think he should build a perennial bowl team in AZ.
sounds like he has a mobile senior QB, hopefully he can score someone in recruiting this year (Devin Fuller) so in 13 he wil have a sophmore not a freshmen to run the team.
I feel bad for his family. During his intro presser at Arizona, his kids had a shellshocked look on their faces as they were introduced to their 3rd hometown in 4 years. It's a tough life for the family. You don't really know if you can settle in or not.
Not going to feel bad for any family making around $2 million a year.
Yes, because money provides children with stability, strong friendships, and healthy family situations. :: rolls eyes ::
With food, shelter, clothes and a lot of other things that are hard to come by in this economy. To act like they're not children of privilege and don't have tons of perks that most kids will never see is eye roll worthy too.
You don't have kids, do you?
I'm not sure why this guy's take is such a surprise. When Michigan hired Rodriguez I was traveling around the country and Rodriguez was getting some really bad media coverage. The general theme was that he fell short of the Michigan standard when it came to character. It wasn't because they were buying all of the WVU allegations really either, it was (as I remember) just the poor choices that led to such a bitter parting. This is why I always laugh about the demonization of the clowns at the Free Press, as if they invented anything. They were simply looking for something, anything that confirmed what the national media had put on their radar.
Anyway, I don't think Rodriguez is Tressel-like bad, or even close, but I do think he seems to have a pattern of making himself the victim when trouble arises.
Cockroaches! (Scarface voice)
Like the only kind of football he knows involves a playstation.
When did Rosenberg move to Tucson???
without giving any context whatsoever is clearly intending to imply that RR was committing acts of the same seriousness as paying players, altering grades, and supplying girls to fuck recruits.
Par for the course for sports "journalists" in other words.
-He has a bad record of winning
-He is unethical
-They only care about winning
He should do pretty well in the Pac 10/12 whatever, like others have said, he coaches somewhere else now, don't really care.
Also, who reads a letter from the editor in a dinky local weekly?
It's not a dinky local weekly. It's the most-respected newspaper that Tucson has. We do have other papers, but they serve the rest of the state, too.
one of rr's regrets (from the book) was sitting back and not speaking up in his own defense. i wonder if he will do the same in response to this column. he certainly doesn't want to get into a p---ing contest with the press but he can't let the media set the tone before he has coached a single down. that tune has played before.
I don't know if that was really the problem. When he did try to defend himself, it often sounded like he was deflecting criticism. After a loss I think it's better to just say "It's on me as the coach, and I'll work to fix it," and then move on.
Sounds like the "anti-jockocracy" people are what has made AZ football suck for most of the last ten or fifteen years.
Something about RR, on a personal level, seems to rub a lot of people the wrong way. What it is exactly, I don't know. But I'm glad that Hoke doesn't seem to have whatever it is. Other than one deranged ex-SDSU player, no one Hoke's crossed paths with ever seems to have a bad word to say about him.
This man does not deserve this again. Give him a chance Arizona.
