OT - Roger vs. Novak

Submitted by goblueram on

After a rain delay, we have the much anticipated US Open final: #1 Novak Djokovic vs. #2 Roger Federer.

42nd career meeting - Roger leads 21-20, but Novak leads the series in majors.

Novak is going for his 2nd title in New York, and Roger is a 5-time winner of the tournament.

Come on Roger!

Meh as long as Nadal isn't winning grand slams I can live with Djoker. Dude is a funny guy off the court and crazy good player on it.

You don't like Rafa?! Gosh all three of those guys have made my love for this sport grow exponentially. Djoker was annoying at first but he's just incredible and has matured both on and off the court in the last 5 years that totally transformed my view of him. Rafa has always been gracious and Federer is Federer. Only really top player I cannot get behind is probably Andy Murray. Not sure why but he just doesn't excite me as a player or person and seems very overrated.

He hardly grunts that loud. Every once in a while when I'm running a ball down or expending a lot of energy on a shot I may let out a little grunt or yell too, no biggy. Azaranka and Sharapova, on the other hand, make their matches completely unwatchable due to their ridiculus (and unapologetic) shrieks.

I don't think Fed is gonna be able to recover from this one...

4 for what... 30 break points?

This one is gonna haunt him.

Kind of funny that I feel bad for a guy who's won 17 Grand Slams . . . But I just wanted to see Fed win one more. Happy for Djokovic though. It is incredible that we now have three active players with 10+ Slams and all have reached the final of all four.

Djoker is gonna steamroll people...

Wouldn't be surprised if he goes Calendar Slam next year. Nadal fell off the face of the planet (funny how it happened after Tennis upped their drug testing protocals)

Federer might make another Final again, but unless Djoker gets knocked out, he won't see 18.

He's lucky he was at his prime when Samprass on his way out and there was a void until Nadal came along. There should be an asterisk next to the 17 grand slams.

You might want to check your tennis history.  When Nadal won his first major, Federer had only won 4.  Starting with Nadal's first win at the French Open in 2005 through the 2010 season, Nadal and Federer won 21 of 23 majors.

Federer is in his own head. He can beat Djokovic. Hell, he just did a few weeks ago in Cincinnati. He is a total headcase against Djoker in the majors, though. He was in control of this match and should have won handily.

He pressured Djoker's serve the whole match, just couldn't capitalize. A tough, tough loss for Roger. He should feel good that he generally controlled the match against Djoker (Roger won the same number of overall points, despite pissing away opportunity after opportunity), but he should feel like shit that he completely shrunk from the moment time after time after time when it mattered.

Much like golf or baseball, there are MANY unspoken or hidden "rules", one of which is that you don't run around side to side or back or forwards during a service motion. Some guys might get salty about Fed's new move, but likely only if they lose. IMHO, said unspoken rule is stupid.
