OT: Robertson to start Saturday

Submitted by Seth9 on
Robertson to start Saturday, Galarraga to Toledo for a little bit. http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090826&content_id=… With Washburn pitching awful, Porcello inconsistent, Jackson looking somewhat shaky of late, and now Nate Robertson entering the rotation, our pitching staff is looking like it could go from being the strength of the team to a potential liability, just in time for the last month of the season in a three way pennant race.

I thought Nate quit the team and was transferring to the Durham Bulls? I hope he's finally healthy. Porcello might hit a wall late in the season and another arm would be nice. Hope he's successful.

I must have football on the mind because I read that as "Robinson to start Saturday"....To which I got excited - then realized I was an idiot. The Tigers are just in their end of the year funk that they always have. I think they will end up fine.

Seems like a bit of a harsh assessment. The guy just went into Anaheim, his former team, the 2nd best team in the AL, who seem to own the Tigers in recent years, and held them to 3 ER in 6 IP for a W. On the other hand, Minor's 4 BB in 1.2 IP are definitely a concern. I didn't see the game (rather, "watched" a stat feed on my phone), but I heard it took a great play by Avila to get Abreu at the plate (and bail Minor out). I, for one, hope Nate can regain his form.

Washburn with the Tigers: 1-1, 5 GS, 5.74 ERA, 31.1 IP, 8 BB, 16 K, 8 HR He pitched one outstanding game (KC), one acceptable game (Anaheim), and three absolutely abysmal games (BAL, MIN, SEA). Furthermore, he is giving up about 1 HR every 4 innings, which is completely unacceptable.

Robertson pitched well in Toledo on Tuesday, he went 6 2/3 innings giving up 3 hits 2 walks and 0 runs. He was throwing strikes, at one point he had 45 pitches 42 of which were strikes.

Exactly. Robertson has been doing well at AAA. Hopefully that translates to MLB level stuff. They aren't asking him to step in and be the ace of the rotation, rather the fourth or fifth starter. If he can come in and eat 5-7 innings while keeping the Tigers in the game, then he will have done his job. That is comparable to what Galarraga and Porcello have been doing the past few months.

Nervious that is a good one, I made up a word for my ex, deceivious. A combo of deceptive and devious, I know how to pick a winner. As far as Robertson he won't make me nervious, I avoid it by not watching him pitch. I will check the scoreboard and hope for the best.
