OT: RIP Bobby Womack (w/ a U-M football connection)
The Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer died on Friday. He of course wrote a song that was part of the 1970s flick "Across 110th Street" --- the tune should sound familiar to all Michigan fans of a certain age. Michigan Replay Music!
Both great songs. Raspy/unique voice
His cover of Don Covay's "I Was Checking Out, She Was Checking In" is amazing.
What a voice. Such a loss.
RIP, Bobby.
soo, many souls down thru the decades...rest in peace,Bobby.
He co-wrote along with his sister-in-law Shirley, the Stones; song It's All Over Now. From the Rolling Stone obit:
"It's All Over Now" was rising up the charts in 1964 when it got knocked out by a cover by a white band from England: the Rolling Stones. Womack was irate. He told Rolling Stone two decades later that his initial reaction was, "Tell them to get their own fucking song!" But he relented when the royalty checks started rolling in. "And the checks kept coming," he remembered.

I also didn't realize that Across 110th Street was used in Tarantino's movie Jackie Brown.
I actually was introduced to "110th Street," and Bobby Womack, via the JB soundtrack. As usual, a terrific soundtrack that Tarantino put together. That and the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack are still among my two favorite albums.
"In one of many violent scenes, D'Salvio finds getaway driver Henry J. Jackson (Antonio Fargas) and brutalizes him in a Harlem whorehouse."
Yep, Justin Fargas's dad was in the movie from which Michigan Replay's theme music was taken.
