OT - Riot in Vancouver = Flashbang to the balls

Submitted by Red_Lee on

First, watch this: Flashbang to the balls

I wish this would've happened to every idiot causing damage out there.

Pretty pathetic display by a few Vancouver fans with the riot they put on. Not only did they discgrace and damage the city of Vancouver, but they also discgraced hockey fans across the world.

Such idiotic behavior over a game.

Although, I was waiting for the Go Green, Go White chants.

I watched the CTV stream for almost two hours before it cut out. The news reporter was so depressed about what he was seeing that it made me depressed. So many fights, fires, broken windows and looting. Reports of stabbings and other such useless nonsense.

I initially felt really good about the Canucks fan base inside the stadium with the way they handled the loss: applauding the 'nucks and even Tim Thomas it seemed like. They booed the crap out of Bettman, which was nice, but afterwards a few jerkoffs certainly ruined the image of a Vancouver hockey fan.

Anybody else watch this crap? I hope nobody was seriously hurt, but it sounds like it is possible.

Hockey is to them what football is to us and what soccer is to the rest of the world. Notice how we're the only ones that don't riot over a game. Instead we riot over $100 off a tv at stores after thanksgiving

That flashbang was kind of funny. I am a Blackhawks fan and it was nothing like that after they one it last year. It is sad to see things like this happening more and more. But I do agree with @hart20 that it is pretty scary when deals come or black friday comes around... People in the US will do anything for that one deal... but tis life when you weed out the middle class..

because Americans never riot for any reason whatsoever and would absolutely not get caught up in road rage. These are facts right...

To be clear, I think what happened after the loss in Vancouver was terrible and that party of the fan base should be locked up, but I have to say the whole holier than thou thing that is see on this site drives me friggin' nuts.

You see it all the time here and especially when anyone talks about Canada. I would think a fan base (many of whom on this bard claim to be graduates from UM) would be educated enough to know their own history (as in the USA) and also know that Canada is a big fucking place (larger geographically than the USA). Some fans in one city in the country don't reflect the general sentiment or behavior of an entire country. Just like most of us don't say eh and aboot.

Some people on this site really show their ignorance when they can't seem to discern between what a small group of people do from the behavior of an entire country. Just look back in this thread and see how quickly it went from Vancouver fans to Canadians.

For years, Detroit has gotten the rap for this kind of crap - in fact, it all started with the 84' Tigers Series win and the burned car afterwards.  Now it can be said that there's the same kind of idiots everywhere.  That was an absolute disgrace.  To illinoisblue: You're right, Chicago didn't do this last year but to be fair, they've only been hockey fans for about 4 years.

This has nothing to do with the 1967 riots.  Those gave the city a black eye locally, but nationally, there were riots all over the place then, so outside the state most people don't remember the Detroit ones.

OTOH, Detroit had violent post-championship riots after the Tigers' title in 1984 and the Pistons' in 1989 and 1990, and those specifically got the city a black eye in the national media.  When the Pistons were in the NBA Finals in 2004, all the L.A.-based comedians were talking crap about how the Lakers needed to win to save Detroit from another emergency.  As it turned out, the city was (relatively) peaceful.

Vancouver has one of the most loyal fanbases in hockey, and after 40 years it still hasn't paid off. I imagine wha fans weren't rioting were drinking heavily yesterday evening because at this point you have to wonder if they will ever win the Stanley Cup (Hint: No).

I live in Vancouver, I'm  a leafs fan and i can honestly say vancouver fans are brutal, they are only loyal if the team wins, if not they are so quick to jump off the bandwagon it flips over. They will now proceed to call for tarading half the team ......after the fires go out that is.

After the 1989 baskeball championship people gathered to celebrate and it was called a riot. It never got too ugly (some car/store damage I think)  but the bad behavior started to ramp up when the numbers grew and it was clear that there weren't enough cops to do much.  I blame alchohol, the desire to impress women, and Eastern Michigan students mostly.

I've also seen Cedar Village explode after a loss to us and it is pertty damn scary.  We locked the doors and pushed all the furniture up against them to keep out the crazies looking for Maize and Blue blood.

If you remember what "beer balls" were (gallon sized plastic containers filled with Coors and a tap) the MSU faithful were siphoning gas form cars taping lit fire crackers to them and bungy cording them into the crowd. I have no idea how people did not die that day.  I remember leaving the next day and seeing a number of cars flipped over.   Not sure the cops ever evenmade it there.

Set a couple of couches and dumpsters on fire and place a bunch of fat girls holding 40s of Olde English 800...  Hell, that could have been East Lansing.

You're confusing the 1967 riot with the 1984 "riot." The former occurence—a city-wide conflagration—had nothing to do with sports, and the latter was a relatively small event that occurred directly after the Tigers beat San Diego in the World Series.

This reminds me of Dana White talking about doing the UFC in Vancouver and the Vancouver concerns about the crowd and drunkenness/violence around the stadium. HIs basic argument was "you let them play hockey and those fans are worse."

Which, apparently he was right...

Jim? Not sure why you were in Vancouver without a ticket, but, sheesh, who expected that kind of crap?  Here I was comparing Vancouver to seattle with all the latte lovin', tree huggin, granolas.

Or not.

I live in Seattle and they are complete ass holes, especially on the roads.  They come down and think they own the city.    Also, I went to a Wings Nucks game when I was 17 with my dad and we almost got the shit beat out of us I think 3 times for cheering on the Wings.

BTW the Wings absolutely dominated that game.

lol that stuf only happens in detRIOT lol

Apparently Vancouver isn't quite the funky, peaceful, quirky hippietown of its reputation.

P.S. anyone ever been to a Canucks game?  It's very weird.  Like, at a Wings game you're surrounded by red and white.  The team has an identity.  At Canucks games there are plenty of jerseys just like at Wings games, but there are blue ones, green ones, white ones, black ones, yellow ones, navy ones, red ones, and maroonish ones, because the Canucks have never figured out what color they want to be.  It's like being at a tournament instead of a home game.

culture, really growing around the world. Not to get too heavy, but you had a little of that in Italy during the 30s. Give it some scary political direction, you're off to the races.

all of you complaining about the rioting are dumb. Have you ever been to a riot. Shit is so much fun. I was in pittsburgt when the Steelers, or stillers depending on how yinzer you are, won and it was awesome. Yea some shit got broken  and some couches burned but it was one of the most fun things i've ever done. I was pissed when the steelers didn't win this year. we had the lighter fluid ready and everything.

so...whos in for a riot after we win the MNC and the final four this year

The whole thing was captured perfectly.

The projectile striking the groin, the rebound and hang time approximately 6 inches in front of Mr. Johnson, the strong exothermic reaction, the body english.

Well done.
