Isaac Nauta c'mon down!
November 29th, 2015 at 2:08 PM ^
Join Mecole Hardman!
November 29th, 2015 at 3:45 PM ^
this thread title. I could care less about the coach leaving. I always think first of how can this help U-M. And Nauta is the obvious first situation that comes to mind.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:20 PM ^
Makes sense. I assume this pushes Nauta to UM, which is a positive.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:26 PM ^
please?
November 29th, 2015 at 12:20 PM ^
Rivals said the only way Nauta wouldn't wind up at UGA is if Richt got fired.......
WELP
November 29th, 2015 at 12:20 PM ^
Soooo, I'm guessing that's good for us huh? Nauta unless UGA hires a super TE heavy coach?

Highly unlikely Georgia lands Harbaugh
November 29th, 2015 at 12:55 PM ^
Smart is the guy for that program
November 29th, 2015 at 1:04 PM ^
So you're saying that Smart is smart for their program?
November 29th, 2015 at 6:00 PM ^
Kirby Smart should go there- and I bet if he does, we see Bama's defense take a [minor?] step back... I bet he could make Georgia pretty good in the east with the Bama Blueprint
November 29th, 2015 at 12:20 PM ^
Wow, can't believe how many jobs are open now. This offseason is going to be crazy. We definitely have the chance to profit in recruiting from all the falling dominoes.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:21 PM ^
I repeat -- I am so happy we secured Harbaugh when we did.
There are not enough quality coaches -- established or up-and-coming -- to fill all the vacancies. There will be more than a few disappointed fan based next year.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:24 PM ^
I think someone will end up hiring Hoke. Maybe not Power 5, but some program will.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:47 PM ^
Toledo would be a good place for Hoke.

As a student at Toledo...
November 29th, 2015 at 4:01 PM ^
"Brady what do you think about your game coming up against Bowling Green State University in the battle of I-75?" - reporter
"Ugh, well, ugh you see ugh, when we play Bowling this weekend we expect to play well because ugh, we practiced well this week" - Hoke
"Wait play bowling? What do you mean? You know you're playing a football game against BGSU Saturday right not going to a bowling alley?" - reporter
"I've always just called them Bowling, uhh, I enjoy bowling ugh, but ummm, we're hopeing to do well against Bowling because THIS IS TOLEDO!" - Hoke
Confused reporter shakes head.

Good for Hardman and Nauta. Jimmy just needs to close the deal.
November 29th, 2015 at 2:39 PM ^
is leaving too. Difficult to leverage that.
November 29th, 2015 at 7:02 PM ^
Unless they hire Pruitt from Georgia. I could see that happening. Durkin made $800k and Pruitt made $850k so salaries are comparable.

Mark Richt's record the last two years: 19-6. Also went 12-2 in 2012.

richt is a quality coach who will land on his feet and do well. By all accounts GA was also the "cleanest" (in a relative sense) of the SEC schools. Someone like Virginia should hire him by 5 PM today if they were smart.
This is a lot like end of Carr and Fulmer eras.... hell almost like Miles last night before he got "not fired". A demanding fan base wanting more then the annual 9-10 wins because everyone thinks they are Bama and OSU. I get it but it's not going to happen for everyone at once due to math.
As always be careful what you ask for. A year ago people wanted Ferentz gone and Bob Stoops,, one of the top 5 coaches of this era.... had been called "past his prime" and the natives were restless. Look at them a year later.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:45 PM ^
This is the argument for firing Richt:
Agree. Herculean task to average 10 wins/year but also hard to argue UGA should ever go 11 yrs without an SEC title. https://t.co/kGX9q9RJ7q
— Matt Hinton (@MattRHinton) November 29, 2015
On the other hand, Iowa hasn't won a BIG championship since 2004, so Richt is more similar to Ferentz, except he has a lot more talent at UGA than Ferentz does at Iowa.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:49 PM ^
we have gone so long without a title too...
November 29th, 2015 at 1:00 PM ^
but we've gone thru 4 coaches! We win!
November 29th, 2015 at 1:00 PM ^
Oh I get all that. He also lacked the ability to win big games.
But as we ND and TN (hell even USC and Texas of late) know - when you get rid of the devil you know... you have no idea what is around the bend! There are so few top end quality coaches out there. Always a risk with a coordinator or smaller school guy - can hit the jackpot or begin your 10 year journey into the wilderness.
November 29th, 2015 at 1:01 PM ^
+1 good comparison between Richt & Ferentz
November 29th, 2015 at 12:48 PM ^
I heard they are looking for a solid coach who likes cold weather.
November 29th, 2015 at 1:56 PM ^
While we are seeing a high volume of coaching turnover this year, there is also a continuing trend of understanding from other ADs accross the country.
With Power 5 conferences being dominated by a small number of dominant programs; ADs are realizing that a "win at all costs" mentality won't work, doesn't support their programs, and the coaches contracts with buy-outs aren't supporting their budgets.
Wins and Losses are a zero sum game and if you have a good coach who is "right" for the program keeping them a la Ferentz, Stoops, Miles is wise.
November 29th, 2015 at 5:40 PM ^
He would freeze his ass off in August.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:48 PM ^
For about 7 years now UGA has fallen flat on their face in games that mattered.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:24 PM ^
Seems like a weird year to cut him loose. With so many big openings I wonder if they have someone already lined up
November 29th, 2015 at 1:37 PM ^
UGA isn't competing with many schools for their next coach. It's a much better job than every opening other than USC. The next best was probably VT. I bet they hire Kirby Smart. Same guy they would hire if there were no other coaching vacancies.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:25 PM ^
My guess is Richt is still at Georgia and Miles was never in trouble if Saban weren't at Alabama beating them and making SEC fan bases believe their team ought to be playing for the national title every other year just like the Tide. Expectations are extraordinarily high down there at this point.
It's a shame to see Richt go down like this. He seemed to try to do things the right way.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:51 PM ^
his attempts to stop the satellite camps were not looking out for the recruits.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:25 PM ^
Have to think that this is the job Kirby Smart leaves Bama for.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:26 PM ^
Hmm..gotta think Georgia has their guy inline already...Im gonna throw it out there. Wouldn't be surprised to see Charlie Strong or RR at Georgia.
November 29th, 2015 at 1:14 PM ^
Rich Rod has had an awful year. He is not an attractive candidate to anyone, let alone a premier SEC program. He is closer to being fired than he is to getting a better job
November 29th, 2015 at 1:23 PM ^
He coaches Arizona. His star QB and MLB were injured. You are not going to overcome those kinds of injuries at Arizona. But he's still a good coach. If I were a program like Miami or Virginia, I would be interested.
November 29th, 2015 at 1:38 PM ^
I agree. I would think RR's agent is working the phones hard right now to get his family back east.
November 29th, 2015 at 1:46 PM ^
its a repeated pattern everywhere he's been. Why you ask? Because his program is a shit show everywhere he goes. He's been at Arizona 4 years and they still make the same stupid mistakes his teams made at West Virginia and Michigan. Why? Because he isn't a detail oriented coach, he makes terrible personnel moves that weaken his defense so his offense will look pretty.
Fine he'll beat a top level program once in a while and that's great. His team got absolutely throttled by Washington and that just shouldn't happen, that is also the norm for his programs. West Virginia's weak schedules covered up a lot of personal coaching flaws that have been exposed at Michigan and Arizona.
November 29th, 2015 at 3:03 PM ^
Washington is a pretty good football team. Let's not act like Chris Petersen hasn't probably had more success as a coach than RR.
November 29th, 2015 at 5:44 PM ^
I can only imagine the fear his defenses would strike into the hearts of the SEC. It makes me shudder.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:27 PM ^
