OT: Richmond SB Wins Div 2 Title
The Richmond Blue Devil SB Team won the Division 2 State Championship today at MSU. They defeated Vicksburg 2-0. The team is lead by Freshman Pitcher Erin Shuboy. Erin made history for Richmond. She threw a complete came no-hitter, which is only the 14th time in state history a no hitter has been recorded in the finals.
This is the first State Championship for Richmond and Coach Howard Stuart. He has taken the Blue Devils to the State Championship three other times in his great 38 year career.
I had the pleasure of coaching against these fine young ladies over the past 8 years. The HS players stay together for summer travel for the Richmond Blues. So these girls play over 100 games per year together.
This team reminds me so much like M SB. Richmond is strong up and down the lineup with bench players getting into the game often. They will steal home plate if you are not careful. They are a lot of fun to watch, and dare I say, they are fun to coach against even though my record against them is less than .500.
You might remember some Michigan SB players that Hails from Richmond. Pitcher Mari Foster (1984-1988) and SS Michele Teschler (2001-2005). Coach Hutch has a great relationship with Coach Stuart so maybe the pipeline will continue.
I would love to see Erin in the circle for the Block M in a few years. Erin is a hard throwing, dominating pitcher who can reach 65 and occasionally 70mph on the gun. She is a Jackie Traina type pitcher.
Congrats to Richmond Blue Devils and Coach Howard Stuart.
Any player serious about playing softball at the highest level will not even consider MSU.
It is centrally located and it has the facilities to handle big crowds.
Such a great little sports town. This was our 13th state championship. (I am actually on the staff for the wrestling team here). Shuboy is a rising star. What an amazing performance. Also, just an FYI, but she did have Michigan gear on when the team arrived back home and the teams cooler with all their drinks in it has a big block M on it. So yes, the relationship with Hutch and Richmond is good.
We already have our big time pitcher for 2019, but I wonder if she's an option for a preferred walk on.
an option for her, is my guess. She can pitch at any B1G schools she chooses. I hope there is room for her on the 2019 team. If not, she will be fine and get a great education.
SB schollies are different than football.
She'd be on the 2020 team.
That team could have as many as four pitchers as it stands if Crockett gets a redshirt.
is second to none the past 10 years or so. The Richmond baseball team is good too. They just cant seem to put together a consistant football team. M/C is the FB powerhouse in the area now.
I am a few mile up I94 from you.
Howard Stuart is the top SB coach in the area. Perkins from AB had a good run.. I am very happy for him and his team. He is well serving of a championship.
know each other then. I'm Kimball Middle School and PHHS too.
