RR offense is a lot closer to what Michigan offense traditionally runs which is singleback wing offense or triple option offense. Pro style came in the late 80s which is relatively new compared to the offense Michigan ran years before Bo's late years at Michigan.

I used a word that apparently most of you aren't familiar with. Among other things, being gracious is acknowledging people when you don't have to. It's the right thing to do in many situations. Given the stature that Harbaugh has, nobody would have criticized him if he simply mentioned RR instead of pointedly ignoring only him out of the last 46 years of Michigan coaches. People keep talking about Harbaugh uniting the alumni players, but there are a few dozen that RR recruited who are now alumni players too.

Whatever—in the long run what JH said or didn't say at his opening presser doesn't matter with respect to his eventual success here, and whether or not a coach does something I like or not is irrelevant.

I wish JH had mentioned RR too, but you're reading into it too much by calling it a "pointed " omission and an "unnecessary cheap shot". I mean, I suppose it could have been. But given JH's personality, I doubt he did it on purpose. He doesn't strike me as a guy who would purposely throw a previous coach under the bus. And really, he has no obligation to mention RR anyway.

They've happened before in posts about successes that RR has had at AZ. There will always be posters who put more blame on RR than his situation, but we've had threads where people pretty much parroted Bacon in Three and Out, which is an extremely favorable (true, I believe) view of his tenure

one would think now that we have harbaugh it would all truly be water under the bridge. i like coach rod and am happy to see him succeed at az. i certainly would never trade harbaugh for him. we should all just wish him the best and focus on our bright future.

They happen in pockets. Usually things go well and then some spammer comes by, calls everyone an idiot for thinking he ever deserved to coach at UM, says something irrelevant about Bo and Michigan Men, then leaves. The rest of the thread becomes people calling this guy an idiot or speaker of truth.

Very cool.

I will go to my grave saying Michigan and RR should have worked.  If he had received the level of support from within the organization that Hoke and Harbaugh have received, this team would be well above where it is now, hitting the reset button again and hoping they can at least get back to the early 00's in terms of on-field success.

It didn't

And both sides did some puzzling things to me to make sure it didn't. UM hadn't handled a real coaching change in awhile. And botched it by not fully supporting the guy we brought in. RR seemed to start to crack under the pressure and make some weird choices with recruiting (o line) and defense.

Honestly, I'm glad for both of us now. RR seems well matched to the Pac12. And I think Harbaugh is a much better fit for us.

When he's not playing Michigan I wish him all the best.

He's still got a long career ahead of him. Michigan didn't work out for him. Maybe if he had one more year things would have been different. We have to remember that RR was the person most disappointed in the results on the field during those few years... We as fans find it easy to criticize, but we aren't the ones putting in the thousands of hours, and not getting results. He's in a good place now, and is finding some success. He's a good coach, and a pretty classy guy. I'm thankful we had him because he gave us Denard, and he loaded the roster with talent that got us a Sugar Bowl win.

It is a rather interesting way to get the fans involved - I actually hadn't heard of this being done before Rodriguez got to Arizona, but I believe he has done this before in his time out there. Of course, Bill Veeck let the fans manage once too, though I can't see this happening at a football game:

The Michigan man got him. lol What a bunch of dumb ass hype from a silly book. Is the book and what people say full of facts, yes. Who f'n cares! I was an external hire into a huge company and everyone hated me coming in. They tried to burn me, misdirect me, and make me fail. I earned their respect, offered zero excuses, and was in charge. I put up results and moved people up or out. Rich Rod was in charge, made millions and let a fucking newspaper bitch run him down. All he had to do was win, and he had more talent than Dantonio to work with. He should have gradually changed his scheme or been smart enough to not take the job. He was in charge and he failed on his own. This isn't front line management.

I normally don't get involved with all the RR bashing. Not sure he was treated fairly.
But with being said feel your comments sum up the whole RR experience in a very concise manner.
The best I have seen.

Its good to see RR having fun with the fans.  His team looks talented on O as well.

Hoke would be like "Hey mind if I try a couple of those nachos"?

I think the fact that the way he treats current and former players is why I think he is a PoS. I don't care about a book or what anyone thinks. When everyone sees Rich Rod had a fluke season at A with a weak Pac 12 conference year. Everyone will realize that Rod is garbage

won Pac-12 South in an arguably the strongest conference in the country.

It's funny that every players who played under RR outside of Michigan would run through the wall for him. Arizona players loved playing for him. WVU players loved playing for him. Clemson players loved playing for him. Tulane players loved playing for him. Glenville State loved playing for him. Notice the theme? It contridicts your post.

Uofmfanjj you're a joke!! Please provide some proof that his former players hate him. I swear people on this blog that claim they know coach rod and his actions are fucking ridiculous. If you think pac 12 was weak last year proves you know absolutely nothing about football.
