OT: Rich Rod on CBS College Sports

Submitted by MAgoBLUE on

It's a snow day so I've got 3 hours of Rich Rod commentary on National Signing Day ahead of me.  I like hearing the guy talk about football.  Maybe he'll actually sound relaxed for once.

EDIT:  It's on Comcast 261 and 856.

They were both professional and courteous. They discussed hs talent in the state of Michigan. They also discussed the upgraded facilities at UoM and how that affects recruiting positively. Hoke (not directed at richrod) talked about the Michigan name and tradition and how it helps recruit and that there is no excuse for Michigan not to succeed... (pan to richrod: no outward reaction). The Hoke interview ended with the niceties and Hoke telling Rod he would call him soon...

What a depressing set and cast of characters.  RichRod--understandably--couldn't look less excited to be there.  He is kind of hard to hear with his commentary.

Back to the ESPNU coverage...

I was listening to an interview with Tom Lemming on ESPN radio yesterday and he was saying that during this 7 hour signing day coverage, they would be interviewing Hoke and Rich Rod would participate.  Someone please get that on youtube when it happens.  Any guesses what Rich Rod asks Hoke?

Lemming also said when they were in the same situation 2 years ago, and Fulmer was the newly fired coach, he refused to participate in the interview with Kiffin.

Wait, what's the "idiot-tastic" part? The part where people are interested in hearing the recently departed coach's opinions on various national programs (including Michigan) and their recruits or the content of his thoughts? In either case, you're not adding much.

The idiot-tastic part would be where 1/2 the board is still riding Rodriguez's jimmy when truth is, any success we have occurs despite the giant hole he dug for the program.  And yes, any insight Rodriguez has on defensive recruits should fall under the same heading as Millen draft advice.

By "giant hole he dug" did you mean all the juniors, seniors, and 5th year seniors that should have been contributing but weren't (and actually looking at the roster shows the lack of bodies let alone talented bodies), the freshmen and sophomores that were his recruits that were starting, the 20 returning starters, or the record low numbers of players drafted into the NFL since he took over? Just wondering which one of those you were referring to as RichRod digging a hole for us?

Since 90%+ of the playing time next year will go to players recruited and given at least one year of growing pains experience by RR, does that mean "any success we have" next year will somehow be driven by the "huge" group of 5th year seniors from Carr and the true freshman brought by Hoke?  If so, should be an interesting season!

...cribbed from this DetNews article cracks me up.

Notre Dame also drew favorable reviews from Rodriguez, who called coach Brian Kelly's signing of seven defensive ends the "best defensive line class in the country."
"Brian understands that you have to build a program defensively," Rodriguez said. "As a coach you want players that don't worry about competition."
