As the Michigan running back have been going crazy, I just help but think how Sam Mcguffie would have looked in our current back field. Looking at the Rice website they are 0-3 and Mcguffie has not played yet does anyone know if he had to sit this year?
OT: Rice Owl 0-3 and No Mcguffie
.. one year
Has to sit this season out in football. He's running track and playing baseball.
Is he really playing baseball for Rice? I didn't realize that he was that good. I may have to go check out a game this year.
Tim found an article about it. I don't know how much playing time he'd be getting. I go to a handful of Rice games every year anyway. If ever starts, I so am making a sign.
Must be a really good baseball player to even make the team at Rice.
Looking through the Rice pages, I can't find anything say he's made the team, or even trying out anymore. The article that I had seen is no longer available through the Houston Chronicle. If I find a way to access it, or if I hear anything, I'll find a board thread to drop it in.
I agree that he'd have to be pretty good to make the team. He may be trying out for nothing more than a base stealer/defensive replacement. I'm not sure how much baseball he's done in the last few years.
As long as he doesn't pitch for them.
Or has their coach stopped his arm asploding ways?
Ojala left early despite his arm asploding causing his draft status to fall 6-7 rounds. It definitely hasn't stopped.
Last year I kept waiting for Mallet to play for those struggling Razorbacks but it just never happened.
Upvoted for the blistering sarcasm.
Biggest upbang ever?
At least you spelled it "you're".
Just think how much better the Michigan backfield would be right now if McGuffie had stayed.
Nonetheless, I wish the kid luck. He was fun to watch.
he still would've been 3rd string behind minor and brown so i don't really see how our backfield would've been so much better
Brown and Minor both had injury issues a season ago, which is precisely why McGuffie got so much playing time.
Minor is unquestionably their #1 back right now but he's essentially missed two games already and another one this weekend seems likely. Yes, he played the entire game against ND but he played very little against Eastern.
They need Minor healthy and badly. But he can't help them much if his ankle continues to be an ongoing problem. I hope they do sit him this weekend. Brown and Co. are more than capable of handling the load.
So McGuffie would have probably been the #2 back for three of the four games to start the season.
There's a chance he could've been the #1 back in 2010 after Minor and Brown left.
I think Mcguffie was behind shaw as well, but shaw got banged up. Mcguffie would have been at least the 3rd RB right now and with Shaw healthy I'm not sure he would even be ahead of him. Honestly I like the way Smith runs over Mcguffie. Mcguffie never lived up to his youtube hype.
Especially when you consider he didn't have much help around him in the backfield. He spent most of the 2008 season running for his life and taking a lot of big shots.
I would venture to guess that he'd be in a much better position to be successful this season with a real QB, an improved O-Line, and another offseason in the Barwis death camp.
I just hope all turns out well for McGuffie. Combination of home sickness and family issues contributed to his transfer. He would have been a good RB for us and a great slot WR. Good luck McGuffie.
but Rice going 0-3 to start the season is nothing out of the ordinary.
With McGuffie they'd be 3-0
Nope, they'd be 13-0 because McGuffie could jump over the rest of the schedule.
Would have been the best post ever if you didn't hypothesize him sitting out and instead said something like "Ha, he can't get on the field at Rice! Sayanara!"
Alas, Musket more than made up for the hilarity you deprived us of.
Topper Harley.. Nice.
CRIME DOG ARF ARF
made me believe...that somewhere inside of me...I could jump high as a white man. However, that reality is buried underneath some bacon cheeseburgers and beers....and some pizza.
is clearly destined to become the most famous non-Wolverine of our era.
I concur. Five years down the road we'll still be talking about his youtube video.
As much as I hate to write this I think Mallett will have a better career than Sam.
who will coach Jackson call the " insert-adjective kid he has ever coached in his entire career".
Can you get concussed running track?
Freak hurdles accident? I'm pretty sure I'd get concussed trying to run hurdles.
Holy crap! If he's playing 3 sports he must have alot of time on his hands. At the collegiate level it would be next to impossible to play 3 sports. There's no down time at all for him.
