I hope you have a safe and happy one! Go Blue!
December 25th, 2014 at 2:44 PM ^
Thank you, you too!!
December 25th, 2014 at 2:40 PM ^
Man, I love chess. And I'm from Jacksonville, too, so I appreciate the Jags love because there are, like, 57 total fans. I do have one question for you, though: if it can't be Harbaugh, as an athlete, for whom would you want to play if you were a current recruit?

I would play for Les Miles because I htink he has the same passion I do about winning. And also that cares about the MIchigan community. I still hope its Harbaugh.
December 25th, 2014 at 3:20 PM ^
I think Les Miles would make it a very fun program to be a part of and really entertaining for fans to follow. Harbaugh will obviously be huge but I don't think people have as much fun playing for him as they do Miles and I don't think the pressers will be quite as much fun. It's just a matter of styles and nobody can argue with the results of either but yeah I still want Harbaugh

I agree with you on that 100%. And Merry Christmas to you to!
December 25th, 2014 at 2:43 PM ^
Wich I could be there with my kids to meet you, Vincent. Taking my kids out of town to see the grandmas. Hope it works out in the future to do something like this again.
Have a great time tomorrow, and Merry Christmas!
December 25th, 2014 at 2:48 PM ^
Merry Christmas. We are going to do more things in the future so I hope to see your kids there. If you have sugjestions let me know I was also thinking about the Hands On Museum in downtown Ann Arbor.
December 25th, 2014 at 2:46 PM ^
I used to love chess, played quite a bit in drafting class in high school!
December 25th, 2014 at 2:49 PM ^
we all know you have inside info on Harbaugh. You can tell us, we promise not tell anyone... don't we guys and gals?
December 25th, 2014 at 2:53 PM ^
Blink once if its yes, twice if its no.
December 25th, 2014 at 3:00 PM ^
I'm going with one, i'm counting the other as just debris flying in your eye. Any who, Merry Christmas, and if anyone is going to find and beat Bobby Fisher at chess, I'm putting my money on you!
December 25th, 2014 at 2:49 PM ^
Do you think you could beat Clay Davis in Chess? What about Bode, or Wallace?
December 25th, 2014 at 2:54 PM ^
I dont know who that is and I am just starting.
December 25th, 2014 at 6:33 PM ^
Merry Christmas MgoFam and Vincent. For anybody interested, HBO will be running a digitally remastered marathon of The Wire starting tomorrow at 12 pm eastern on HBO Signature. Random comment for my first post I know but shiiiiiiiit. I've seen too many Wire references here to not share this info. Happy Harbaugh Days!

Merry Christmas, Vince! Congrats on the new hobby. I went to chess club every friday for 5 years. It will change your life. It's also great to play with family during the holidays.
December 25th, 2014 at 2:55 PM ^
Do you have strategys for me? I agree.
December 25th, 2014 at 3:01 PM ^
It's kind of like football. Exploit weaknesses and mismatches. Make them pay for mistakes and always have a gameplan.
December 25th, 2014 at 3:09 PM ^
First strategy in chess is to think about two to three moves ahead of your current move. I always like clearing the board of pieces and protecting my queens. I will trade back row pieces as long as after the exchange of pieces I'll come out with the last piece after the exchange. I hope that makes sense.
December 25th, 2014 at 3:18 PM ^
I've always liked to push my pawns and play in space. It can be reckless at times but it usually pays off.
December 25th, 2014 at 4:15 PM ^
Thanks for the tips and it makes sense.I use it today when I play today.
December 25th, 2014 at 8:27 PM ^
No problem, way back in high school I used to play against a guy who basically made a fort with his pawns. He would start off by mo ring the two pawns in front of the king and queen out 2 spots then the pawns next to them out 1 spot. And he would then use the horses to help protect the front row pawns.
He was a bastard to play against. You had to be real aggressive to start and mess up his fort before he built it.
December 26th, 2014 at 9:09 AM ^
Okay Okay. Yesterday I started off with a double move with the pawns and then set up my horses side by side. I will start trying the back row piece trade.
December 26th, 2014 at 10:36 PM ^
Do u know of any good chess apps for a smart phone? I could go for playing on it. Definitely playing on a real board is better, but an mgoblog chess group could be sweet.
December 25th, 2014 at 3:17 PM ^
queens are your mvp, but i find bishops underrated.
cool trick: "castleing", especially queen-side.
December 25th, 2014 at 4:17 PM ^
Ok cool ill art this to my game. Thanks!
December 25th, 2014 at 9:11 PM ^
Do the thing where you say "That's check, and mate". That's the best part
December 26th, 2014 at 9:10 AM ^
Thats the best part of the game
December 25th, 2014 at 5:47 PM ^
Learning some basic opening strategy will help your play immensely and help you feel less like a scrub. :) Basically in the early moves try to (1) establish your pieces in the center of the board (2) move your kingside knight and bishop off of the back row to prepare to castle, and (3) try to castle within the first 10-15 moves. If you can do that, you should be set up to compete reasonably well in the mid game.
December 26th, 2014 at 9:11 AM ^
I like this stratagey and took a screen shot so I can remember it.
December 25th, 2014 at 11:30 PM ^
Protect your pieces, but leave openings to attack the opponent's side of the board.
December 26th, 2014 at 9:12 AM ^
bet. Thats one of my strategies I am getting used to opening up with.
December 25th, 2014 at 2:51 PM ^
Merry Christmas Vincent! Cracks me up that you got a present from an MGoBlogger. I think Hands On Museum would be a great idea for an event.

THank you and Merry Christmas to you and your family. It is a nice idea and later in the future we can plan an event with a good time and date.

Merry Christmas Vincent. Those throwback screens to you were my favorite play of the Hoke era. They always got big yards.
December 26th, 2014 at 9:17 AM ^
Thank you I had a lot of fun with those screen passes
December 25th, 2014 at 3:53 PM ^
Merry Christmas MrSmith and thanks for all the great football memories. You were one of my favorite players.
December 25th, 2014 at 4:34 PM ^
Thanks I'm glade I was able to give you some great memories.
December 25th, 2014 at 4:11 PM ^
Hopefully you're having an excellent Christmas as well.
I wish I could go to SkyZone tomorrow, especially as I am about 15 minutes from there, but previously laid out plans made it difficult. The kids would have a blast though (especially my son, who seems to be able to spend hours on trampolines), so if there's anything like this in the future, let us know!
December 25th, 2014 at 4:31 PM ^
No problem I totally understand and we will plan another one in the future. So the ones who wasn't able to make this event can come next time.
December 25th, 2014 at 4:13 PM ^
MrSmith. Chess is a game if strategy and like football, it's all about reps. (At least it did for me when I started playing as a kid.)
December 25th, 2014 at 11:35 PM ^
to look at a book or two.
Seeing what other folks think will make you more aware of your own ideas; you don't have to use or follow anything the book says in order to benefit from having looked at it.
December 26th, 2014 at 9:19 AM ^
I agree with you on the reps and I am learning more and more in every game I play. I will continue to do more research and get better as I go. Because practice does make perfect.
December 25th, 2014 at 4:17 PM ^
Enjoy the chessboard. Trust me, once you get acclimated to the game, you will be hooked for life. It's also great game to pass on to your children.
