OT Redwings or Spring Game??/
This evening, within about 10 minutes of each other I was given the opprotunity to go to both Michigan's spring game and game two of the Redwings playoff series.
I don't know what to do. Im leaning towards the Redwings, but my question for all my fellow Michigan* mgousers is what shall I do?
*for non michigan residents it would probably be easy to discount going to a Redwings game
Update: Im going to the wings game
Since we're talking a scrimmage, have to go with Red Wings playoff hockey. Good thing we have MGoBlog to give the lowdown on what I missed.
Wings, based only on the fact that the Joe has a roof, which the Big House does not.
Can I have your spring game tickets
Its my wife's grandfathers tickets, so.... no. But you probably wouldnt want to go with my in laws anyway

Tastes an awful lot like sad...
Red Wings definitely. Nothing beats Playoff Hockey.
I love playoff hockey, and a lot beats playoff hockey! Football is the reason why he posed the question!
Playoff hockey at the Joe is great.
By the time you get home from the Wings game the youtube videos of the spring game will be up.

You can just set your dvr.
For a minute there I thought you just called me a gouser...then I worked it out.
Fooball.
I am in the same situation and chose to go to the Wings game. I can always catch the highlights of the spring game.
Playoff hockey vs. meaningless scrimage...
This shouldn't even be a question
Michigan football is never meaningless. It's not playoff action, but it is the only chance to watch the team perform for the next four months.
This game will have no impact on Michigan's postseason considerations or chance at a Big Ten title. Nor will it have any real impact on future games this season (barring injuries, knock on wood). Nor will it have any meaning to us in terms of who wins and who loses. It exists solely so that fans can see the team, as well as give a glimpse of where individual players are at after spring practice. So yeah, by the standard of will it have any real impact on the 2011 season, it is meaningless.

The Wings wil probably have a dozen more games, at least, and far more meaningful one's.

But then to me Michigan Football is life; the rest is just details.
If it weren't for the weather, this would be a total no-brainer. Spring game all day and every day over one of what will be many Red Wings playoff games.
EDIT: I should say hopefully many games.
a Wing's playoff game? Sure, there will be plenty of chances to watch them on TV..... but you aren't going to get many chances to actually go to the game. In fact, it is easier to get tickets to a Michigan home game than it is a Red Wings playoff game.
The spring game isn't a game. It isn't even a scrimmage. It is a practice. The "teams" will be divided up, but they will just run through drills. This is not better than Red Wing playoff hockey. Don't be ridiculous.

To a Wings first round playoff game...

Even if you're an opposing fan.

It's also easy to get tickets to any Michigan game in 2009. In fact, for twenty bucks I will give you all of my tickets to the 2009 season
But the hope the Spring Game brings is that it WON'T be that easy to part with them in the future.... :-)
M-Wolverine!!! Thank God it's you. I'm the ghost that contacted you a few days ago. I'm still stuck in this horrible limbo. HELP!!!!!

College football, by its nature, is always meaningful. There is no way possible for a public Michigan football event to be meaningless.
Professional sports exist for two reasons only - to pass the time in between college sporting events, and to give people who didn't go to college something to latch onto.
So decreed.

I'd hardly call the last chance for football methadone before the long summer sets in "meaningless."
This wouldn't even be debatable for me. But I think the weather forecast for Saturday would make this an easy choice for anyone!
I don't think you need to ask us. It's a no brainer.
Definitely the Wings. Easy choice. Playoff hockey vs. scrimmage. There's a reason Wings tickets are so damn pricy and the scrimmage tickets are free.

Good point. Let the free market decide!
I had the same two options. Of course I had to go with third option: wedding.
Perhaps my 20s and 30s wouldn't go so fast if I wasn't spending half of the spring/summer weekends at open bars.
Elope now, and spend your honeymoon at one or the other.

Not mine, dammit.
I plan on going to the spring game for a while, then heading to the bar for the Wings game. Is that so crazy?
April 13th, 2011 at 10:37 PM ^
I'm actually doing the exact same thing. I don't have tickets to the Wings game, or else I would be going to that.
Playoffs versus Spring Game is no comparison.

If I had tickets to the Wings game, I'd go to that, but shit if I'm just gonna watch it on TV anyway I might as well try to have my spring game and eat hockey too.
Question is what bar in AA should I watch the Wings game at. Maybe I'll check out Packard Pub since it's close to the stadium and I haven't been there yet.
Go to the Wings game. I would choose the wings over the spring game in a heart beat.

Do we have to have tickets for the spring game? I thought it was just walk in free like last year, or am I mistaken?
April 13th, 2011 at 10:23 PM ^
This was covered on the board earlier, but: Tickets, which were available online a few weeks ago and promptly snapped up, were for sideline seating. Endzones are still available for walk-ins. Open question what happens during the game when people realize that it's raining and half the sideline-area "reserved" seats aren't filled; presumably/hopefully one could just move over to the middle then.

Ok thanks.

We are talking about practice here.

Enjoy Red Wing's Playoff Hockey at The Joe.

DVR the Michigan game and go to the wings game. The great thing here is you know who wins and dont have to try to avoid a score update or soemthing. You kind of get the best of both worlds. Now I am in a pickle. I live in the south so I am not going to anything. However, the wings are on, the Michigan game is on and the wife is coaching a lacrosse game that will get her team in the playoffs if they win. Just so you know I am joking this isnt a pickle at all. I looked my wife in the face today and said, "I will not be at your game on Saturday, Michigan is on at noon and the Red Wings at 1 and you know where my priorities are" . She understood

no limits
April 13th, 2011 at 11:24 PM ^
Red Wings! Not even a tough choice. I am watching the Wings game on tv rather than walking a few blocks to the spring game...
April 14th, 2011 at 10:10 AM ^
If you're only a few blocks away, couldn't you watch part of the Spring Game then make it back for the Wings game?
Not trying to be a douche or anything, just asking...
April 14th, 2011 at 10:16 AM ^
The Spring Game would double as a family outing with the inlaws as well (my wife and I live in Chicago and the inlaws in Grand Rapids) So I dont think leaving early would go over too well.

dunno how it sounded on TV, but the Joe was absolutely ROCKING tonight. My ears are ringing and my voice is shot. GO WINGS!!
