OT Redwings or Spring Game??/

Submitted by The Name on

This evening, within about 10 minutes of each other I was given the opprotunity to go to both Michigan's spring game and game two of the Redwings playoff series.

I don't know what to do. Im leaning towards the Redwings, but my question for all my fellow Michigan* mgousers is what shall I do?

*for non michigan residents it would probably be easy to discount going to a Redwings game

Update: Im going to the wings game

Since we're talking a scrimmage, have to go with Red Wings playoff hockey.  Good thing we have MGoBlog to give the lowdown on what I missed.

Michigan football is never meaningless.  It's not playoff action, but it is the only chance to watch the team perform for the next four months.

This game will have no impact on Michigan's postseason considerations or chance at a Big Ten title. Nor will it have any real impact on future games this season (barring injuries, knock on wood). Nor will it have any meaning to us in terms of who wins and who loses. It exists solely so that fans can see the team, as well as give a glimpse of where individual players are at after spring practice. So yeah, by the standard of will it have any real impact on the 2011 season, it is meaningless.

The Wings wil probably have a dozen more games, at least, and far more meaningful one's.

a Wing's playoff game?  Sure, there will be plenty of chances to watch them on TV..... but you aren't going to get many chances to actually go to the game.  In fact, it is easier to get tickets to a Michigan home game than it is a Red Wings playoff game.

The spring game isn't a game.  It isn't even a scrimmage.  It is a practice.  The "teams" will be divided up, but they will just run through drills.  This is not better than Red Wing playoff hockey.  Don't be ridiculous.

College football, by its nature, is always meaningful.  There is no way possible for a public Michigan football event to be meaningless.

Professional sports exist for two reasons only - to pass the time in between college sporting events, and to give people who didn't go to college something to latch onto.

So decreed.

I had the same two options. Of course I had to go with third option: wedding.

Perhaps my 20s and 30s wouldn't go so fast if I wasn't spending half of the spring/summer weekends at open bars.

If I had tickets to the Wings game, I'd go to that, but shit if I'm just gonna watch it on TV anyway I might as well try to have my spring game and eat hockey too.

Question is what bar in AA should I watch the Wings game at.  Maybe I'll check out Packard Pub since it's close to the stadium and I haven't been there yet.

This was covered on the board earlier, but: Tickets, which were available online a few weeks ago and promptly snapped up, were for sideline seating.  Endzones are still available for walk-ins.  Open question what happens during the game when people realize that it's raining and half the sideline-area "reserved" seats aren't filled; presumably/hopefully one could just move over to the middle then.

DVR the Michigan game and go to the wings game.  The great thing here is you know who wins and dont have to try to avoid a score update or soemthing.  You kind of get the best of both worlds.  Now I am in a pickle.  I live in the south so I am not going to anything.  However, the wings are on, the Michigan game is on and the wife is coaching a lacrosse game that will get her team in the playoffs if they win.  Just so you know I am joking this isnt a pickle at all.  I looked my wife in the face today and said, "I will not be at your game on Saturday, Michigan is on at noon and the Red Wings at 1 and you know where my priorities are" .  She understood
