There are basically four players in the running for the Calder: * Tyler Myers (D Buf) * Matt Duchene (F Col) * Jimmy Howard (G Det) * Tuukka Rask (G Bos) We probably won't have more than one goalie in the top 3. And Rask has better numbers than Howard in every category but wins and starts. Plus voters will be hesitant to select him because of his age (25), so as nice as it would be for Howard to win it, he should be happy to make the top 3.

The hottest goalie in the NHL right now would be Brian Elliott of the Ottawa Senators. His last four games he is 4-0 with 2 shutouts and a .983 saves%. He has cemented Ottawa into the playoff picture similarly to Howard for the Wings. Will not argue with Howard's 11-2-1 record since the break, or his performance in the shootout tonight. He seems to be developing into the franchise goalie they thought they drafted in 2003.

I think that Tyler Myers of Buffalo will win it. I think that Duschene and Colorado are fading, so there is a chance that he could finish second. The fact that the team is winning and in position for the post season is all I am worried about, and I think that we can dump Osgood and his salary next year. Also, I think that it is time for Maltby, Williams, Lebda and Meech to go, and I would love to see the team get a little younger (Abdelkader, Kindl, etc.).

For Jimmy Howard: 1. Beats Pittsburgh 1a. Best save of the Pittsburgh game- the glove save he made on Sidney Crosbitch's face 2. 26th Birthday 3. 20th Consecutive Start 4. Shutout on the road- stops 10 of 11 Nashville Shootout shooters 5. Didn't lose a single game. Howie and the rest of the Red Wings are catching fire at the right time. GO WINGS!!!! and GO BLUE- BEAT MIAMI!!!!!!

myself into oblivion if the Wings didn't make the playoffs. I've been a Wings fan longer than I've been an M fan or student, being from the Detroit area, and for them to fall out of contention the same year I get a Darren Helm jersey for Christmas would be the biggest buzz kill in history.

with 3 games vs bottom dweller Columbus coming up and 1 vs meh 80pt Philadelphia the wings could conceivably end up in 4th place: GP W L OTL PTS San Jose 75 46 19 10 102 Chicago 73 46 20 7 99 Vancouver 75 45 26 4 94 Phoenix 76 47 23 6 100 Nashville 76 43 27 6 92 Detroit 75 39 23 13 91 Los Angeles 74 42 26 6 90 Colorado 74 41 26 7 89

That would be very difficult. To finish in 4th they would have to have more points than the team with the lesser points out of Phoenix and San Jose. Tough to do unless those teams go on a major slide. Crazier things have happened. Really, getting the 4th or 5th seeds isn't that different in the NHL, as far as for a given team is concerned. If you can't overcome not having home ice against the 4th seeded team then you shouldn't be too worried about winning the cup. Fun fact, the NJ Devils are in 2nd place in the leastern conference with 93 points.

Tyler Myers for Buffalo is going to win. However, I think Howard should win it. My status as a Wings fan probably influences this. My thoughts are that he is making the most impact on his team of any rookie because he is carrying the team to wins on occasional nights and keeping them in the running most nights. He's been more important to their winning than a single D, even if he has been a very impressive D.
