OT: Red Wings vs Oilers Tonight at the Joe and having 100 in sight here soon!

Submitted by the_big_house 500th on
Tonight the Detroit Red Wings are home in the Joe hosting the Edmonton Oilers (you know, Gretzky's old team) Anyways the Wings right now are currently 6th in the Western Conference and are looking to climb into the 5th seed above the Predators. The Wings have been on a roll as of late winning now 5 in a row which included that incredible 1 goal game against Nashville last week. The Wings are coming to the conclusion of their schedule with only 7 games left to play in the regular season. Coach Mike Babcock gave his insight about the Wings position right now and he's feeling confident as the season draws to a close. "We are starting to pick things up right now and we are playing much better and I have really been impressed with how we are killing penalties and capitalizing on power plays." The Wings are looking to climb even farther with a chance to keep this momentum going with a home win tonight. They currently are a point above the LA Kings with 91, two above the Avalanche and only 3 below the 5th ranked Predators but with a streak of winning all remaining 7 games in their regular season the Wings have a chance to rake in 105 points! IF they can win out but more than likely there will be a possible loss or two. Tonight is expected to be a sold out game and an exciting one as the Wings continue their road to the playoffs!

Edmonton is to the Red Wings like the Blue Jackets are to the Blackhawks. Although I expect the Wings to continue their winning ways tonight. Who is the best matchup for Detroit in the First Round? Chicago, San Jose, Phoenix seem to be the likely candidates. I would pick Phoenix although I honestly don't know too much about them. Chicago would be nice for travel purposes and also their goalie situation.

Theoretically, they are all tough, but I'll take Phoenix. Their talent level is noticably lower than San Jose, Vancouver, and Chicago. Their leading scorer is Shane Doan with 53 points. Granted, this is the kind of team that has burned Detroit in the past, but I still feel a lot better about playing them than I do the other teams. Everyone is down on San Jose now, but they can't stay down forever, and I think the Heatley trade is going to pay off for them.

is certainly the team the wings want to play because they are the only team out of the four without a big time scorer AND they don't have an elite defenseman that is a serious threat to shut down either of our top lines. This is also a big game tonight because its Datsyuk's 600th career NHL game and Zetterberg's 500th, yay milestones!

...CHICAGO!!! 1) Short travel 2) Blackhawks have blueline health issues (Campbell, Johnsson) while the Wings are mostly healthy 3) Howard and Osgood are far superior netminders than Huet and Niemi 4) Revenge factor to stick it to traitors Hossa and Kopecky, as well as show Bowman his glory days ended in Detroit DO NOT WANT PHOENIX!!! 1) One of the three hottest teams in the NHL 2) Owned by Bettman, who will do everything to job for PHX in the playoffs so he can get top dollar from the next sucker willing to try and keep the team in PHX.

After blowing a 4-0 lead, the Wings get a goal with just over a minute left (that had to be reviewed by Toronto) and hold on to beat the Oilers, 5-4. Go Wings!!

I almost crapped my pants when I checked the score in the third and it was 4-4 after having it be 4-0 in second. I could see the slow-motion dong punch coming at me... thankfully with the help of Stuart I was able to dodge this one. God bless you sir.
