I love hockey and the Wings. I'm upset with what Holland has done to this team. They are stuck in perpetual mediocrity because of all the insane contracts Kenny has doled out to mediocre veterans. It is really hard to see this team contending anytime soon

First Ferraro and then Pulk...your telling me that you couldn't get ANY asset in exchange? I know neither were setting the world on fire, but losing players you developed for nothing seems outrageous. Couldn't you trade from the glut of forwards (including even prospects) and pick up a serviceable defenseman?...It really seems like Holland doesn't know how to manage the roster anymore.

There was a great piece on Winging it in Motown that showed just how shitty Kenny is at managing entry-level contracts.  The salary cap hit for signing a bunch of mediocre veterans to play the 3rd and 4th lines, vs. bringing up younger players, was astounding.  It's an incredibly convincing proof of how Holland is emphatically not a good cap GM.

It's only going to get worse. They're right up against the cap with no end in sight and Tatar, AA, Ouellet and Jurco are RFA's next year. Smith is a UFA and he's gone.

Oh and it's only two years until Dylan Larkin and Mrazek are RFA's and every bad contract besides Mike Green will still be on the books.

It's not the most inspiring lineup. But hopefully they can put together a good season to send off the Joe in style. I like Z on the wing, takes a lot of pressure off him. 4th line looks like a disaster on paper. LGRW

These have been the practice lines all week. It's the same front office/coach that sat him last season, played him 5 mins a game when he was in, won't give Mantha a shot, let Frk and Pulky walk out the door for nothing all because we need to waste a line and a half on Veteran Leadership, and Penalty Killing Poorly, and Adding Nothing In Terms Of Goals.

The question isn't "what did you miss," it's should be "why did you ever expect anything different.

I am a huge Red Wings fan . I have the lowest expectations for this team  in over 20 years . I hope they can prove me and the experts wrong and make the playoffs at least .

Holland has made some very bad moves, and signed people to very questionable contracts for years now  .

For those of you outside the FS Detroit area, Fox Sports Go app will supposedly stream live games this season.  It has always been absurd to me that they did not in previous seasons with the Wings.  You would just need someone's login info that has the channel.  Hopefully this helps out a few non local Wings fans.

let me just say that you guys better appreciate Frans Nielsen, the most underrated hockey player in the history of Midgard. (It's a long-held belief among Isles fans that he is in fact a Scandinavian deity, defeating evil with his legendary Danish Backhand of Justice.)

He's a complete player and a heck of guy; my life has been one unending Morrissey song since he left the island for the Motor City.

Haven't been this apathetic about the Wings in my lifetime. They probably won't be too good and they simply don't have a team that's fun to watch, especially with Dats gone. Hopefully they prove me wrong, but I don't see a ceiling much higher than what they've achieved the past few years.

Come with a lot of drinking. At least we have a lot of young guys finally getting a bigger role with the team, especially on defense. I am excited to see the Z-Nielsen-Tatar and Abdelkader-Larkin-Sheahan lines but I don't expect much this year

I'm not sold on Blashill and I think this season will either prove me right, or wrong.  Too many players like Tatar and Nyquist badly underachieved last year, when they should've been trending upwards.  Enough that you start to call into question the coaching.  And he's familiar with these guys, or should be, from coaching in GR.

If there's a bounce-back, and we can get 60-point seasons out of those guys, then the streak can continue.  And as long as the streak continues, there's a chance.  The playoffs are still anyone's game.  A lot of people point to the defense, and it's not amazing, but me, I think it's the scoring that needs to improve.

So I pose a question to my fellow Wings fans here. I love the streak. It is a great stat and record to hold. Playoff hockey is also, to me, unquestionably the most exciting postseason. That being said I really feel like Holland is tied to the streak. I even half believe that is really his only goal; keeping us good enough to slide in as the 7th/8th seed every year.

With this being said, would you be alright missing the playoffs this season if it meant the end of the Ken Holland era? Seeing that streak end would break my heart a little. But having a ceiling as a low seed that sneaks into the playoffs is really losing its luster.

I also think we may have passed our window for bringing Yzerman back here to replace Holland. The fortunes and roster for the Lightning continues to trend up where as it seems the Wings are moving in the opposite direction. Hope Im wrong as I really want to see Stevie Y home instead of knocking us out every year.
