Let's Go Hawks!!!
We don't like your kind around here
I upvoted both of you. I like the banter.
Go Wings!
Must be a Northwestern fan
Nope. Just born and raised in Chicago but my family is originally from Grand Rapids as well as Shelby Township. Plus my grandpa, dad, uncle and two cousins attended Michigan which is where I get my Michigan love from. Quite a bit of my family are Red Wings fans though because of originating from Michigan so we have a fun rivalry. I'm not one of those "Detroit sucks" Blackhawks fans because of that reason.
We will forgive you because you probably root for the cubs too
Unfortunately it's another team you guys won't like. I'm a Sox fan too
Probably goes great with your Miami Heat jersey too.
Wings should be more fresh for this game. Maybe that grueling seven game series vs the ducks proved to be too much
Fu** the Hawks
Cleary scares me sometimes.
Wings looking very good to start - a ton of good chances. Really need to put one in, though.
Wings need this game badly. If we get a split coming back to Detroit we're in decent shape. The longer this series goes on for, the more I like their chances.
The wings need to get Cleary off the ice for good. He turns it over and falls down constantly.
Marian Hossa, ladies and gentleman.
Someone jump Hossa for that pansy shit
The Chicago Blackhawks have to be the least appreciated and recognized teams in the Original Six. But then, I have always wondered if Chicago was a bit overrated as a sports city in terms of fan passion.
Are you serious??
He can't possibly be serious . . .
he must have been joking!
Why? You really think anyone gives a shit about the Blackhawks in Chicago? They're relevant now, but Chicago is a front-running sports town.
Yes I do. You must look at Chicago from the outside and not know shit about the die hard fans here.
I have to remind myself that the Blackhawks are an Original 6 team. They easily lack the tradition teams like the Wings and the Habs. And wasn't it just a few years ago that their owner refused to show home games on TV?
Stan Makita, Phil Esposito, Bobby Hull. No tradition.
Yes their horrible owner refused to show home game on tv but that makes the city bad fans when they still supported them? It's not our fault that Bill Wirtz was an egotistical asshole and refused to show home games on tv. This city is full of die hard Hawk fans and when old man Wirtz passed away and his son started running the franchise like it should have been it gained even more fans. Nothing wrong with a fan base growing, but to say that Chicago is a fair weather town when we've sold out stadiums in all sports for years through good and bad(Bulls post Jordan, Cubs, Bears and Hawks during the blackout years) shows your ignorance.
Those hockey players? Known only by your fan base over the age of 50. You haven't sold out your hockey arena until recently. Post-Jordan bulls are an afterthought. Nobody goes to Cubs games to watch baseball. Nobody GOES to White Sox games. The Bears get support in spite of themselves and that deformed spaceship of a stadium. So you got me there. Chin-up! You could still win this game. But, gosh, it'll sure suck to lose this series after you all but gave yourselves the Cup a couple months ago.
For the Blackhawks as an organization, and "lacking tradition" is pretty ridiculous, but the United Center was damn near impossible to fill, at least the times our teams needed to sell 300 section blocks. Unless the Blues or Wings were in town, you pretty much ate the cost of the seats.
I'd also add that there are a ton of fair weather fans that all claim to be lifelong fans despite lacking basic knowledge about team history or hockey in general. The real question is whether there are more than other "long dormant" teams recently finding success, and I have no way of knowing that.
I think he just means relative to the rest of the original 6, the blackhawks don't have much tradition. I think that is definitely a point that could be argued.
But it's not like five of the Original Six have been excellent since 1942 and they're the outlier. If they have less tradition than Boston, NYR, and Toronto, it isn't by much.
toronto has won 13 cups, you could certainly argue they have more tradition than the wings. the only team that is near the hawks is the rangers
But it's pretty much the Wings and Canadiens and then the other four. Not winning a cup in the expansion era is a big knock on their tradition relative to Detroit and Montreal.
What does Boston have? Two Cups in the seventies? Orr>Hull?
more cups than either chicago or NY and the only player who you could argue was better than wayne gretzky (gordie howe is close)
Dammit, they score. 1-0 Hawks.
Can they please sit Brendan Smith?Ian White must be really bad if he's not playing instead of that turd.
White had a good year from all accounts. I know there was trade talks with white because of our youth movement but if you're not even going to play him then why wouldn't you trade him for offense. Great move, holland.
Maybe because of the injury parade they had going.
Brendan Smith...blsghfrguhgryhbhggg!
Brendan smith is just not ready for this stage yet. Yet he is on the 2nd d pairing.
Smith's play shows why the Wings liked to have their D-men spend a lot of time seasoning in the minors. Perhaps a luxury that isn't available in the salary-cap era?
Looking pretty good overall but damn can't get our defense sucked down in their end and have them with the advantage up ice! That goal should have never been!
I would rather see one of Sam Bernstein's children on the ice rather than Brendan Smith
The one Bernstein child doesn't have the greatest hand-eye coordination.
Where's Vernon Goldstein?
Can't be worse than Smith.
I bet Beth could play SAM linebacker.
Everytime I hear a goal is scored it is usually preceded by Smith doing something wrong.
As long as "usually" is replaced with "always."
Letting Hossa go and signing the Mule to a never ending contract will be the major mistake of Ken Holland's career
Not only that, he decided to not sign Leino in order to resign Draper.
