OT - Red Wings game 3 not on Versus

Submitted by Maizerage05 on

Pittsburgh-Montreal game 3 is on Versus nationally tonight, and the Red Wings/Sharks will only be on FS Detroit.  For those of us outside the FS Detroit viewing area, hopefully there will be some decent streams tonight.  If anyone finds one, please post!

Need a win tonight, Go Wings.

*Apparently Versus will "join in progress" the Red Wings game after Pittsburgh/Montreal concludes (7pm Eastern start).  So maybe the last half of the 3rd period will be on Versus.

versus is terrible anyways. i would much rather watch it on fsn. the cameras were either too far zoomed in or it seemed like the guy would take a sip of his coffee while the play was going on. I'm not sure where they get these camera men, but I'm glad I don't have to watch that channel tonight and hopefully next one, too.

Holey moley, bingo bango, get her going boys, lay the lumber, johnny on the spot, heads to his office, blew a tire and Holey Mackerel!

If San Jose's going to be diving like swans, I at least want good ol' Mickey complaining about it right along with me.

Really?  And I thought I was done with this once I didn't have to deal with the NHL incorrectly blacking out Versus because they thought I was supposed to get FSN Arizona.

oh good, the second half of the last period.  that should really satisfy the red wings monkey on my back.

why does this day continue to kick me in the nuts?!

The joined in progress thing sucks. I'm a hawks fan, and i missed an entire game when the early game when OT, and last night i missed 3 goals with the damn rolling coverage.

In terms of the Versus camera work, i've noticed that they show the play MUCH better on the HD channel than their non HD. Granted, my HDTV is much bigger/better than my other TV, but... yeah, theyre not shooting for square TVs.

Ah, I hadn't realized that about the TV shot. You're damn right!

Versus is still really really bad at covering penalties. Fox Sports gives you a "delayed penalty" graphic, and usually shows you the infraction. Versus just keeps watching play and maaaaybe mentions that Nabokov has gone to the bench after 30 seconds or so. They don't replay most penalties -- you're just supposed to accept that it happened.*

continues to grow unabated.  Why wouldn't they just have NHL-N carry the TSN feed so people can see the entire game?  Bettman is an ass-clown of the highest order.

If you are going to join the games in progress, why not start the game at 8:00 or 8:30 so we can see at least half of the games??

Also, agree completely with the NHL Network comment above.  NBA does it with NBA TV for first round games.  NHL is the only major league to not have every playoff game on national television (including college football and now college hoops).  Rediculous that Round 2 games are not available everywhere.

Look at atdhe.com and channelsurfing.net. I live with a bunch of poor college students and we went with internet and no cable, so those two sites have been lifesavers.

None of the Pens games are joined in progress, but all the other series are. Someone called Versus asking them why this is and the woman said " The NHL tells us which games to air and that all Penguins games are to be shown live". Bettman has to much time invested in the Pens for it to be any other way.

they ARE the defending Stanley Cup Champions and could very well repeat.  It's not like Pittsburgh is a small market and for this series in particular their opponent is the polar opposite of a small market.  I'm sure it's partly to do with Gary's championing of Crosby and the Pens as his model franchise, but there are legitimately good reasons to air the Pens.  The Detroit/Pittsburgh markets are probably about a wash (though Gary would go with the Pens, if it there was only one team obviously) but there is absolutely no contest between San Jose and Montreal.  None.  Not even close.  So as dumb as Detroit fans think it is, in this case, you can't really complain, it makes sense.

EDIT: That doesn't excuse NHL-Network, they really probably have no reason to not borrow FSNs feed, unless FSN won't let them.

with the Pens as a team, other than Gary.  But I do hate Gary, wholeheartedly.  Is it bad of me to wish upon him a heart attack?  Or a seizure?  Or really fast acting cancer?  Or a car accident?  Or spontaneous combustion?  Or aliens killing/abducting him?  Or asphyxiation?  Or drowning?  Or someone just bitch-slapping him to death?  Or having his neck/wrists cut by a skate blade?  Or if you've watched 24, having Sherry Palmer just flat out bitch him to death?  Or any other process that results in his permanent incapacitation or demise?  Is it worse to want to participate in any of said activities?

When the Wings were defending champs, I don't believe they were on Versus everytime. However I'm not 100 % certain.

I really don't care if it is on Versus, I prefer FSD. Not just because they are the Wings announcers, but because Versus coverage blows. They can't follow the puck, they put banners up during gameplay that get in the effn way. They're announcers are not good at all. Why can't they get someone good in the booth.  I'd much rather watch Chi/Van than Pitts/Mon and i'm lucky to get CBC.

The whole point is the NHL is trying to cram Pittsburgh down everyone's throat. Not just this year either. Washington is the same way, just not as bad as Pitt.

Montreal is in Canada.  Canadians have their own TV networks.  People up there tend to like watching hockey.  They're probably watching on Canadian TV.  Versus is a non-factor for the Montreal market.

This is the US.  Detroit and San Jose and both US cities with larger TV markets than Pittsburgh.

There's absolutely no excuse for the Wings game to not be on TV.

myp2pforum.eu has high quality websops with streams from all feeds (wings, sharks, and versus).  take your pick, and watch.  the only downside is a delay of about a minute.  so if you're parked in the open thread, you might get news of a goal from fellow mgobloggers before seeing it in game.

honestly, i'm thrilled to be able to watch a wings feed and listen to ken and mickey instead of having to hear the versus announcers give the sharks a reach around every 5 minutes.

I'm in Chicago with RCN cable and I'm pretty pissed I had to order Versus, first of all, and hard to order it as part of a sports channel pack.  I can deal with that, fine, but then I hardly get the Red Wings games anyway which really perturbs me.

I'm officially done watching this game already.  I cannot believe how pathetic the officitiating has been and will continue to be.  Its sad really

13:33, Tomas Holmstrom 4 (Johan Franzen, Nicklas Lidstrom)

Mule takes it around behind the net, centers it to Homer who's parked at the front of the crease.  Puck deflects off of his (stationary) skate and in.

Fucking refs tried to take it upstairs.  Goal stands.

I want to know how that goal was good yet Z's was bad.  Unreal.  Should probably be 3-0 right now if it wasn't for Homer getting a penalty for staring at SJ the wrong way.

EDIT:  I also would like to know how teams get away with cheap shots against the Wings after the whistle, yet Detroit gets called for it.  Amazing.
