OT-Red Wings fans attempting flashmob

Submitted by weasel3216 on

The Production Line is saying that there is going to be a tinfoil hat flashmob tonight at the Gordie Howe entrance of The Joe.  The flashmob is protesting the officiating in game two in San Jose on Sunday night.  If anyone watched the game they know how bad the officiating was against Detroit, especially in the third period.

Personally, it is nice to see the fans are protesting against the officials, but will it really change anything?  No game two is over and the Wings just need to come out and say fuck the officials and play their game.  If the officials get out of hand i think the league should come out and say something, but i doubt Bettman would say shit.

I'll actually respond to your thread. I am as frustrated as anyone about the officiating. This 'movement' is funny for the fans, but the team needs to be focused and put it behind them. The organization has always been good at saying the right things, but you can read between the lines and realize they were beyond upset about what transpired on Sunday. I think the more people that raise awareness about the NHL's officiating (Yahoo, for example even ran a story about the questionable calls), the more valid the complaints are. That being said, as long as this annoyance stays in the stands and out of the player's heads, I think the Wings will take care of business tonight.

The article mentions a girl starting a flashmob. Was I the only one who was upset that the flash was coming from tin foil?

As bad as the officiating was, that game will probably be forgotton for its atrocities because the game-winning goal was caused by a borken stick and they made a blatant makeup call on that goaltender interference at the end (As if calling ONE garbage penalty on San Jose at the end in order to make a 4-on-4 was going to make up for the mockery of a game that was).

on both teams were garbage for the most part.  There were just way more calls and thus way more garbage calls against the Wings.

I find it interesting that the Wings were the second least penalized team in the League in the Regular season, San Jose was the 8th most penalized team, averaging about 5.5 more minutes of penalty time per game.  In the postseason Detroit is the 6th most penalized, San Jose is the least penalized, averaging about 5.5 less PIM per game than Detroit (Phoenix was 11th most penalized, averaging about 2 minutes less than Detroit, in the regular season Phoenix averaged 2.5 more minutes/game than Detroit).

About 6 of the play-off teams have vast differeces between their regular season and post-season PIM (the first 4 in most post-season PIM, us and San Jose), the other ten are all pretty similar.  Ottawa, Buffalo and New Jersey are (were) getting aboout 8 more PIM per game in the post season than in the regular season.  We're only about 5.5 more minutes per game, thankfully.

I'm not sure what the data really means, espeically with all the varying number of games played and playing one team versus the whole league, but it's interesting to note the differences...

That was taken by MGoBlog's own Misopogon. I think (at least I gave them a bunch of shots of the tin hats and I think I remember that one being mine).

Regardless of the penalties, the Sharks have out-hustled and skated circles around the Wings in the first two games.  The penalties near the end were justified, because it looked like we had to cheat just to keep them from blowing the game open, especially on that play when that Shark's stick got slashed in two.  Hopefully the players themselves don't bother thinking about a conspiracy and shape up their defense; another 2-goals-in two minutes flurry by the Sharks will probably end this series.

The sharks have absolutely not skated circles around the wings. In fact I think the wings have outplayed the sharks the majority of the time 5 on 5. On the play where the shark's stick got slashed in two Cleary was trying to play the puck and he accidently hit the guys stick, that happens all the time in hockey. Of course it is a penalty, but are you saying he did it on purpose because he didn't think he could get the puck away from him otherwise? Also it was a 3 goal in 2 minute flurry by the sharks in game 1. The wing just need to be better in the circle and they will be in the home games obviously.

Bettman needs to go.  It's not like the officiating hasn't been questionable for the past few years now.  He does absolutely nothing to correct it.  I'm not just talking about the Red Wings either, I'm talking about the entire NHL.
