OT: Red Hot Chili Peppers just killed it in Detroit

Submitted by unWavering on

And Lidstrom was there to say farewell.  Best concert of my life so far, and I've been to some great ones.  Who else was there?

I know, I was bummed just like that! The whole band(!) , I thought to myself, it must of been a bus or plane crash. Well good that didn't happen.

And I also thought the title of this thread read that they had been killed in Detroit, not that they killed it. The morning was not out of my eyes yet. My favorite concert in Detroit was Actually the Snoop D O Double G. Epic lyrics amongst other fun.... This was in 97. A great year.

I totaly read that title wrong.  Very glad that I finally saw "it" in there.

I saw the Chili Peppers way back when they went on tour for By the Way.  I wish they were coming to DC on this tour but it doesn't look like it.

I've seen them a dozen times or so, and they put on an absolutley amazing live show. Their new guitar palyer Josh is pretty decent. I would have gone to both shows ( GR and Detroit ) if my wife wasn't about to have a baby anyday now. And I too thought it said they were killed in Detroit, almost ruined my week!

Hey don't do that to me!  When I read the post I thought it said "Red Hot Chili Peppers just killed in Detroit"  Maybe you could have come up with a more unlikely title.

I was at the Joe last night.  Had a lot of fun.  Wasn't the best concert of my life though, that would go to BOB/Jay-Z/Eminem at CoPa.

Detroit was popping last night though.  Probably the most fun I've ever had in the city.

Everyone has their own taste in music.  Just because you don't like a band doesn't mean everyone else shouldn't like them either.  It's just ridiculous to make fun of other people's musical tastes.

Flea last night said to support ALL music.  He is completely right.

Only reason I went was to see metalica, but thought Dokken and the scorps played well. Was not impressed with vanhaggard!

Have seen the Peppers four times: at Pine Knob for Lalapalooza (with Ice Cube, Ministry, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden), and three times at Van Andel in GR.  IMO, they are not the same without Frusciante - and that includes their stint with Dave Navarro, who fronts one of my all-time favorite bands (Janes Addiction).  Frusciante is an absolute  genius on guitar, and was the main architect of that unique Peppers sound from Blood Sugar Sex Magic    though Stadium.  Still love them, but even they'll admit that they're not the same without John.

Best concert for me has to be the Metallica/Guns show at the Silverdome.

I was at the Tigers game while everyone I know was at the Chili Peppers concert.

Some boy band I had never heard of was at the Fox (One Direction -- this is the name of the band) and at the same time as the game, so you had Minivans filled with 12-year-olds depositing the kids in the midst of Tigers and Yankee fans. And you couldn't come down the Lodge instead because the RHCP fans were packing that up.

Ironic that it was Red Hot Chili Peppers I was listening to when I was the age of the One Direction fans (Blood Sex Sugar Magik was one of my first CDs, and won me my first-ever girlfriend). Walking past the squeeling teenies on Woodward I reminded myself that these kids were the equivalent of New Kids on the Block Fans among my contemporaries: condescension justified, baby!
