Ok so I'm sure there have been a few threads on here about this game but I just got it on Saturday and I have not been able to put my control down. I'm not sure if it is because of the Western setting or what it is because I know it is basically just GTA but I absolutely love this game. I have not been sleeping properly since I got it and the wife has suffered in the attention department. Anyone else agree with how cool this game is? Favorite parts?
OT: Red Dead Redemption = Crack
I have the exact same feelings about Red Dead Redemption that I do about GTA IV, extreme disappointment and boredom. Every mission is the same, everybody sending you to do some trivial escort/retrieval/assassination that requires you to off an unlikely number of bandits. It was tiresome back with GTA3, but at least GTA 3 and Vice City were over the top with crude humor and stuff. GTA IV and Red Dead are trying to be more serious but are just more boring.
Rockstar has not been able to impress me since Vice City, especially when Bethesda and Bioware have been making games that absolutely wipe the ass with GTA and Red Dead. I've logged over 100 hours on Fallout and Dragon Age: Origins, and will probably do the same with Mass Effect 2. It's unlikely that i'll even finish Red Dead.
you don't get out much, huh?
Don't make me start boasting about all the alcohol I've drank the inconceivably attractive women I've bedded this past week.
Ah, the perks of not having a summer job.
Let me guess, it's the windshield. Niiicce.
For Fallout and Dragon Age shout outs. Have you gotten the expansion yet? Mass Effect 2 was great, Mass Effect 1 was more impressive story-wise... but there were some annoying gameplay elements in ME1 that they fixed for ME2. You won't be disappointed with ME2.
I also just got done with Alpha Protocol... again, some gameplay mechanics that were a little puzzling (ie. enemy AI), but the 10 gajillion possible endings, pretty sweet. Think Choose Your Own Adventure but with boobies. I've re-played it like twice already and planning on more.
I don't have any money for DLCs and I heard Awakenings wasn't really worth the money.
I heard Alpha Protocol had many fantastic ideas and none of them were executed well, so I bought Red Dead and ended up being disappointed.
xbox or ps3?
The game is indeed the tits. Just finished it last night (ending was excellent). The GTA edifice is a bit tired, but otherwise everything about the game is awesome. That it doesn't have hours of dick jokes and low brow humor like every other GTA makes it a way better game.
Plus, you get to punch a grizzly bear in the mouth. If that's not everything that's great about this country, I don't know what is.
Just couldn't get into it. Thought I would because I enjoyed the first one so much, back in the days of the PS2. Traded it back in today and will be continuing my Assassin's Creed 2 quest.
I liked it a lot. The story was pretty solid and I actually cared about my character. All in all it's a fun game.
I just started playing multiplayer and most games only have three other players. I thought it would be more popular but it's free roam so I just go around and flush out gang hideouts.
Love the game, just getting involved more with the multiplayer after getting 100% in single player. The co-op is pretty fun. I didn't really like GTA IV, single player was alright but I felt multiplayer was a mess compared to Red Dead.
... OLD school, on my parents' spare 13" black and white with rabbit ears.
I got it a week ago for PS3. It is extemely addicting and fun. Basically GTA on a horse, but because you aren't flying around in a car you take more in.
Fantastic game. The wildlife is the most realistic I've ever seen, and the horse riding is unparalleled. I thought I would miss the high tech weaponry of today's shooters, but that wasn't the case at all thanks to the variety of guns and deadeye mode for blasting multiple enemies quickly. Scenery is amazing, and being kind of a history nerd, I enjoyed the whole "time capsule" aspect to it. Music is haunting in a Morricone kind of way.
One thing I tried just messing around is to turn it into a hunting game by using only the sniper rifle with no deadeye. Better than any of the Cabela's Big Game Hunter-type games you could buy. I feel sorry for you guys that haven't liked it. I didn't enjoy GTAIV as much as the PS2 GTAs, but Red Dead is the first game since then where I felt like there was a little world living inside my console.
Just got 100% on it a few days ago. It's an awesome game, but damn, getting 100% took forever! I wasn't even going to until I beat the game, then beat all the stranger mission, then realized that I was almost at 100% so why not.
I tend to have some mixed feelings about the RDR in that some days it's frighteningly addictive for a few hours and other days it gets kind of old. This said, the comparisons to Fallout are a bit difficult in that Rockstar offers a more cinematic immersive effect whereas Bethesda offers a more old school RPG feel. If the two could ever be mixed electricity usage would go up x10.
