OT: Rece Davis Replacing Chris Fowler on Gameday

Submitted by Bando Calrissian on

Come this fall, @ESPN_ReceDavis will replace @cbfowler on @CollegeGameDay @espn #CollegeGameday

Felt like this was coming after Davis was center stage in the CFP Gameday-type coverage and Fowler took on calling games this season, but still kind of amazing that Fowler won't be at the desk this fall.

tv show by far (I know what that says about me) which I look forward to every Satuday in Fall. Davis is fine, but Fowler has a sense of humor and the prodding that he gives to the guys on the set is important to the atmosphere of the show. IMO he is the key element of the success of that show.

Wow. I've been watching him in that chair for close to 20 years. Kind of sad.

I wonder why. Davis certainly isn't any better than fowler.

Who will control lou holtz now?

Its because Rece's contract with ESPN was up and he wanted to do something bigger than get stuck with Mark and Lou all day.  So in order to keep an extremely valuable employee (he does a ton for them) they had to give him a bigger role to keep FOX/CBS's hands off him.  And this was rumored back when Fowler signed his deal last year. Still kind of surprising though.

Ugh. Wish this wasn't so. I really like fowler, he's really mild mannered and he has such great chemistry with the others. I find Rece Davis annoying and too talkative

C'mon...you would hate it if it were one hour.  Not enough time to properly hit on everything, and I doubt they would do any features at all.  And if you really want to watch just an hour of the show, no one is forcing you to start at 8am.  Just turn on Gameday at 11am and pretend that's when the show starts.

No - it's too spread out. If I watch just an hour they still have too many talking heads and not enough game preview. I don't need to have David Pollack's opinion ... on anything, really. He's a waste of space.

I mean Jesus...what's the problem here?  If you only want to watch an hour, watch an hour.  I personally like it the way it is and so do a ton of other people.  And TV moved away from game analysis a long time ago, because unless its their team/game they are talking about, hardly anyone gives a shit.  That type of coverage ain't coming back.

I cannot believe people exist who actually like Musberger.  He is awful.  I am so thankful he hasn't broadcast a Michigan game in years.

Aside from the fact that I dislike his football calling and he's biased as hell, his World Cup coverage was the worst sports broadcasting I have ever heard in my life.

Does no one around here remember Keith Jackson, and what a damn fine broadcast actually sounds like?

He always does a good job, is professional, rarely shows bias, but is still enthusiastic and accurate.  I really like him and he rarely mis-speaks.  He's a class act.

Many many years ago, when I was an international exchange student, I saw ESPN GameDay for my very first time and I thought Lee Corso was Mel Brooks.  It took a while for my friends to convince me he was actually somebody else.  I thought he was really funny and I still like Corso.  Kind of embarrassing but I though I'd share anyways.

I know it's a passing of the torch per say, but to the average viewer will they notice?

The two are almost alike
