OT: Reason(s) we hate Pam Ward

Submitted by TheOracle6 on

As we have all heard by now, Pam Ward will be calling the Michigan @ IU game this Saturday on ESPNU.  I can't stand this women for many reasons so I thought it would be fun to see why everyone else also severely dislikes her.

I can't stand her because she totally kills the players names and couldn't diagnose a play if it was right in front of her face.

How about the mgocommunity?

Her mere presence in the booth is a reminder that an angry and well-organized minority can make a lazy or frightened majority cater to its whims.

In the interest of political correctness, I'll say no more.  :)

... Millen the Village Idiot is everywhere these days, and is 100 times worse than Ms. Ward.

Think down through the years of all the ex-player "color" announcers who can't speak the language or provide any insight beyond "Wow!"

I think the cheap shots on this have about run their course; there's something off-putting about anonymous guys criticizing a woman's appearance.  Definitely not the "Michigan Difference."

I have to ask myself what Millen did to get himself a job announcing.  I don't know, after being the architect of an 0-16 team not to mention of teams where the best record was 7-9.  That mediocrity doesn't happen often....It's almost a malicious form of mediocrity.  And when ABC has that jackass covering the Michigan games, it's almost like they are raising their middle finger to the State of Michigan.  Hey ABC, you still pissed that King Coleman owned you in all his interviews with you?

Oh and what was the deal with the announcers during the EMU-OSU "game"?  Did Tressel give them certain favors?  I mean they made it sound like he was beating a team that was coached by the reincarnation of Bear Bryant, Fielding Yost and Knute Rockne....Geeze....And they couldn't help fawning over themselves when Tressel called a trick play when ahead by 25 points in the third quarter.....Geeze....

It's because she's really bad at announcing, and I just know there has to be a human being out there, preferably a woman just to keep things PC, who would be better at that job than Pam Ward. ESPN should give that person, again preferably a woman, the job. Pam Ward makes games almost literally unwatchable. They might as well not even bother with a play by play person.

I would much, much prefer to listen to the game in another language by someone remotely competent (not even really in football, just announcing) than listen to Pam Ward. I find listening to golf on the radio more interesting.

I dislike Pam Ward as an announcer. Immensely.

If we have to have a female play-by-play announcer, why not Sage Steele or Hannah Storm? They obviously can inflect their voices and read from a teleprompter. Reading from a spotter's prompts can't be all that different.

She is going to be silent for 3 precious hours this Saturday because she will be largely unable to carry on about "time of possession" the whole game like she has done for the last 2 years.

I don't hate Pam Ward as a person, but she's a piss poor football announcer. The injured Marshall player incident was over the top.  That and the intelligent comments like  " If that guy runs the ball into the endzone, he'll score 6 points".

Anyone want to give her the "Crocodile Dundee" sex verification test? Yikes!!!

It literally hurts my ears.

If you took a trasncript of what she says during a game and read it, it would not be run-out-of-the-room-screaming bad.

But when you hear it in her odd inflectionless nasal bleat, it just plain hurts your head.

I'm not a particular fan of Pam Ward because she's not a great playcaller.

This is the thing about there being one woman play caller (or woman doing X): if they happen not to be very good at it, they kind of ruin it for the rest of us.  The next talented chick wanting to play call is going to have to overcome the Pam Ward stigma.  While having people make snippy comments about her looks (if she's not Miss America) and basically catcalling her on message boards (if she's cute).

It's great to see I'm not the only one who wants to thrust a rusty spoon directly into my eardrum at the sound of this thing's voice. Also as mentioned above her not knowing WTF she is talking about while slaughtering players names.

I guess someone had to post THIS so it might as well be me...

I hate when she calls games!  I was terrified that she would be calling the BG game, I couldn't even describe the relief / excitement when I heard Brian Griese's voice.

and that's not hyperbole, she really is the worst sportscaster ever, in the history of television and radio. I'd rather listen to "boom goes the dynamite" guy call every Michigan game for the rest of my life than listen to "her" call any more games. Here is a classic Pam Ward-ism for your amusement:
