OT: Is this for real? Anyone watching this? Chicks in shoulder pads and helmets and bikinis playing football

Submitted by wolverine1987 on

I randomly turned on Fuse TV tonight to see the Chicago Bliss play the Atlanta Steam in football, wondering what minor league it was. It turns out it is women playing football in shoulder pads, helmets and bikinis, and it seems to be an actual league and an actusl thing. Where have I been? I have nothing to say other than it seems this is a real thing, and not a product of the Playboy channel, not that I would know what the Playboy channel offers of course...

Lingerie football started - I think - as a super bowl half time show alternative...Spike TV I want to say. Guess it's still around. Hrm.

Yeah it's called the Legends Football League. Been going on for a couple years now. You would think with the concept that it would be fun to watch, but the play is just so bad that it gets sad after a while.

Mark Rypien's daughter won MVP of that league last year or the year before. maybe not him but definitely a daughter of a reasonably famous NFL player from the early 90s though

which makes this OP so weird...you don't have to watch, or know random facts like Mark Rypien's daughter plays to know it exists. Hope he knows there is now a major soccer league in America too. And what's with all the moral PC? Disgrace to football? Who the fuck compares this to real football? Do they think WWE/WWF is wrestling? They're both entertainment...that's it. And what they wear is no different than half the shit already on TV. Or what about beach volleyball? Is the fact that they're a "real" sport and they're crazy talented mean they can wear nothing and it's okay? They don't HAVE to wear what they do...look at the sport at the college level. Look at the dancers in football and basketball...all there for the same purpose as this league, entertaining. If this disgusting then so is all of that. Courtside girls in the NBA...Google the video of Al Horfords little brother. Ringside girls in boxing or MMA, same thing. Entertainment. No one watches them for informational purposes. Let's be consistent. In reality most people don't pay attention to the vast majority of it. But some do...and that's fine, but this league is no different than other forms of entertainment where girls where next to nothing for a predominantly male audience. And there are other women's sports leagues where women wear the same or less...so no matter which angle you look at this, it's silly to single the LFL out other than it just plain sucks.

at my sports knowledge. But yeah, never was aware, I was floored. I'm aware of the Detroit Demolition and the women that play in those leagues around the country, and yes I'm well aware of our soccer league (though I ignore it in favor of watching the EPL). I hardly think the comparisons are comparable, but whatever.

Wow, let's catch a Legends League game then hit up Hooters for a couple of Bud Lites and some chicken fingers!

/s

So I guess that "league" only exists because something called "Fuse TV" exists.

I saw a clip the other day where a girl was accepting award during game, shotgunned a beer and then continued playing. Word is they drink throughout the game. Probably a league I could play in... But I'd have to work on my pad level

I could be wrong, but didn't Toledo have a team for a couple years? The Crush was their name, I believe, and it was only at the beginning of this year that they decided to find another market in Ohio. There are only a half dozen teams or so currently active, I think, but tons of ones that were flashes in the pan of varied length.
