I can forgive drug use, thievery, academic fraud, free tats, most everything is deserving of a second chance.  The two special cases are sexual abuse and violence.  Mistreatment of women because obviously.  Violence because these kids are so big and strong they could kill someone with a punch pretty easily.  These cases need to be extemely difficult to return to the field from.  I'm not saying offenders can't come back to lead productive lives, they just don't necessarily deserve to be able to play college football again.

IMO, and I know mine doesn't matter, this is a mess and delaying things is ridiculous.

Mixon clearly wants to put all of this in the rear-view mirror. That’s part of the reason why he did that plea deal. Yes, it keeps him out of court and avoids the uncertainty of a trial. But as much as anything, it lets him get back to the business of being a football player.

But if he really wants to put the incident behind him, everything needs to be out in the open, including the video. Unless Mixon is a total bust, you can rest assured that video is going to come out. It isn’t going to be pleasant when it does. For Mixon, there’s never going to be a great time for the video to surface, but sooner would be better than later.

His lawyers have seen to it that the video hasn't come out as yet.  I think that was part of the plea deal: he pleads guilty and the court keeps the tape under wraps.  The only ones who have seen the video are court officers, some of the media, and perhaps a few other select individuals.  The media people who saw it said it was ugly and it would be in Mixon's best interest if it never saw the light of day.

About 42 media people saw the video and many described seeing the young lady shove and slap him.

Sensitive subject for many, but I am actually glad that the Csonte York sucker punch tape was released.  I wish the young man luck and he has served his 7 days in jail, but it made Hoke's decision a little more clear.

Since everyone is bashing him and OU.

First: What he did was absolutely wrong. Hitting women, or actually anyone for that matter, is never ok. It came with consequences, both legally and through OU.

However, having worked as an inner city educator who has seen how communities can be devastated when we punish someone for one mistake for their entire lives, I am happy to see him get a second chance. If the article is true, he served his punishment both from the legal sde of things and from OU.

Kids/young adults make really poor choices. This young man clearly made a very poor choice. I hope is doesn't define him forever.

Going to be honest with you guys here... I don't think the mindset with Mixon is similar to that of other guys who have been involved with domestic violence. I live in OKC and I've read most of the articles and heard a lot of perceptions of this situation. I think OU fans are still excited about this kid, and the knowledge of him is that this incident was completely out of the norm for the kid and is not quite so cut and dry as "punch girl in face" sounds. The OK media all got to see the footage of the incident, and it was basically what they expected they would see. There was an article in the Oklahoman this morning with quotes from Stoops about how exited they are to have him back and how good of a kid he is. He does not have a bad background at all, and I will honestly be more shocked if we hear about another negative incident from him (especially to this severity) than if we don't. I completely dislike OU, but I am definitely open to seeing this kid have another chance. One incident should not be the end of a players career.

serious actions (crimes) warrant serious punishment.  the kid has no right to play ball, its a privledge.  allow him to take classes and learn if thats the huge issue, just kick him off the team.

i guess theres varying degrees of punching women in the face though, maybe theres a scale:  was it a jalen mills / miles face punch or mixon / stoops type assault?

plenty of first time offenders catch serious assault and plenty of first time offenders are murderers - as other first time offenders get drinking tickets or weed charges - missing how history / background must as a rule influence the punishment or perception??

He sat out a whole damn year for punching a girl in the face. What more do you want? Should he get the death penalty? Should we never give anyone second chances? I mean, Stoops did this yearlong suspension at about the same time that the NFL thought a 2-game suspension was enough for the Ray Rice thing.

#8 player in the country?  Sure, why not. /s

Honestly, I'm not going to act indignant that people with desired/rare skills get treated differently.  Sure, he served a 1-year deferred sentence and, I hope, has learned from this mistake in judgment.  Realistically, there's a 50/50 chance he doesn't get in trouble again, but so be it.

I'm torn on this. Part of me intuitively is just disgusted by what he did. I also can't get the article that Brian wrote this fall about Frank Clark out of my head. How do you evaluate someone's character based on on one horrible incident? Is that all you need or can there be variation? I have no answer and it's horrible to think about. No matter what, we as a society need to figure this shit out. Violence is never the answer to a problem and these situations are just heartbreaking. I hope that everyone involved is at peace and can figure it all out moving forward. Hopefully Mixon adjusts his behavior and realizes the gravity of his error. Hopefully the victim isn't overly traumatized by the experience.

Sorry for the long rant. Trying to verbalize my thoughts on this is harder than anticipated. I suppose I don't have an opinion on whether or not he plays, as long as this more important issue is addressed somehow. How that will happen/did happen, I have no idea.

I'm not here condoning his actions or saying the girl deserved it, but as a poster above stated, the girl was out of sorts and approached Mixon looking for an altercation (I believe she was drunk). It is known that she had a history of legal issues, so I say this with the understanding that she was not an innocent party in this incident.

I will reiterate from my post above that Mixon was known to have a good background with no prior incidents in his childhood, so this was very out of sorts for him. Again, there is never an excuse to hit a female, especially in the manner that was done in this case, but I fully understand this as something to not expect in the future with him. This isn't a Ray Rice issue where the footage showed the actions of a completely cold-blooded male - there were faults in both parties, and the end result was Mixon going out of control with how he reacted to the female's actions. His suspension and jail time was understood and deserved, but I fully expect him to learn from this situation as everything I read claims him to be a stand out individual with good morality.

I didn't think Mixon served any time.  Suspended sentence and community service?

Not saying the 'victim' doesn't have issues; but unless she took a swing at Mixon with an object in her hand, I'm not sure he was justified in taking a swing back.

Similar to the frank clark situation where he didnt hit her until after she hit him with an alarm clock and bit his nose hard enough to draw blood.  It's not exactly fair that one person can attack another and face little to no repercussions while the second person can't respond at all without their life going down the toilet simply because person 1 is a female and person 2 is a man.  Where's the equality in that?  Don't attack someone, period, especially somebody who can easily crush you.

Fractured orbit, cheeckbone, jaw and sinus?

1 year deferred sentence and community service?  No court mandated therapy/treatment for his obvious anger management issues?

His legal defense was "he acted instinctively, in self-defense", as a 6'1" 220# guy against a 5'6" 130# girl?

smh.  what a joke.
