OT: Ray Allen Retires - Pens Letter on Players Tribune
MGoFam,
I understand if the Moms need to remove this post, because it is NBA related and this is football season. However, Ray Allen (who announced his retirement today) has always struck me as a winner, one of those professional athletes who would be a solid role model for kids. Plus, the Players Tribune is awesome and this is a great read.
Synopsis: Work hard, don't care about what other people think, stay focused!

I guess you don't watch much basketball.

There has been a bunch of talk about him returning - I guess he's officially closing that door.

Right up there with Curry (who still has a lot of career ahead of him, but his percentages are crazy), Reggie Miller, and I dunno, JJ Redick? Ok, so top 3.

I also like players from my formative years, like Larry Bird, Dale Ellis, and Mark Price. Those guys were amazing shooters.

One of the most amazing shots under pressure I've ever seen. Dude could flat out ball.

In other words, come late March, we will start hearing the ''Ray Allen interested in making a comeback for ''x'' playoff contender"

four players that i thought were extremely similar all around, and all great 3 pt. shooters....
Ray Allen
Glen Rice
Dennis Scott
Reggie Miller
Scott is a tad below in all shooting categories except 3s, but these 4 are very similar IMO.

really think Scott is in the same conversation as the other three that you name in terms of all around players. That seems like an outlier to me. A former teammate of Rice, Steve Smith, comes to mind instead of Scott.

As a teacher at a Title 1 school, I am always looking for things like this to show to my kids to show them what is coming up next and why making good decisions now is so important.
Any father/teacher/friend/mentor should read this and show to whoever they are mentoring as this is powerful stuff.
Thanks again and Go Blue!

Going to share this with my daughters and wife, even though my daughters are a little older than 13. Very moving letter, full of wisdom. Great stuff. Players Tribune is quite a contribution to sports fandom by our fellow Michigan fan Derek Jeter.

sometimes the internet comes up with awesome things like this. I like to get away from my general memes and gifs I post 85% of the time.... :)

A ten time NBA all-star, two time champion first with the Celtics and then the Heat, and the all-time leader in three pointers made. He's arguably the greatest shooting specialist that ever lived, and in his prime he was best at his position, second only to Kobe Bryant.
I'm going to believe that you didn't know that he was, because only a major jackass would troll basketball threads and pull the "people still watch the NBA?" card. That would just be silly of you!

hate to thread jack, but my god
MSU is the most selective fanbase in America. The OP says going back to 1990 is plenty far...yeah, because going back that far doesn't make it as bad for MSU. What a bunch of idiots.

We won. Fuck MSU. It's over.
