OT: Question: Cameras at the Big House?

Submitted by nuck on

Hey Guys,

Got a question for y'all. I just got a dSLR camera (one of those big ones with the lens (http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40/images/d40.jpg) ... are these allowed inside? The MGOBlue website says you can bring in "small cameras and radios" ... I'm not sure if this counts as "small"

Any ideas?

THANKS!!

Use an entrance on the East side with the steps where the band and players go in. Few if any students use this entrance so the security is not as tight. Also, if you have a light jacket (on the pretext it may be cool by the end of the game), wear the jacket and hang the camera around your neck inside the jacket.

Worse case, they won't let you in with the camera so have a backup plan of where you could leave your camera (hopefully you will be parked close enough). Allow enough time to get back to your car and return before the pregame.

I do not know about the bigger cameras but last year I went to a game and had my camera case over my shoulder with my smaller camera. I was told that I could not have the case. The guy was good enough to let me take it in but was told very sternly to not bring it next year. so I guess as long as you don't have a carring case you shouldbe OK.

If that's the camera and lens you have, you'll be fine as long as you don't bring a case with it. I've taken a similar camera (actually slightly larger) with a similar lens several times, and I've never had a problem. (I usually leave my camera at home, but that's mainly because I just want to enjoy the game without having to worry about taking pictures. It's nice to have a day off.)

Sorry to bump this, but I am going to the Penn State game, and wondered whether or not people have been able to get DSLR cameras into the Big House this year. Have any of you guys tried, and have you been successful or unsuccessful this year? Thanks for the help.

I bring my Nikon D3 with a 1.7 mm teleconverter attached to my 70-200mm f/2.8. No problems at all- I did enter by the East side the last 2 times. This year I tried to enter the MSU game and was told I couldn't bring it in. Another reason to dislike MSU for me.

just to keep in mind that they're buttoning down on stuff the last few games. you can't bring bags in. that's not to say that the rules w.r.t. cameras necessarily changed, but they might be more strict.
