- Purdue has suspended B.J. Knauf and Jordan Woods (after their arrest)
- Freshman Danny Etling will take over at QB
- QB Rob Henry will move over to defense to fill a need at safety
I don't see any way this could go well
I've been waiting for just this moment to deploy this article I remember from back in my day...did Brian write it?
A phrase that I use quite often at home resulting in eyes rolled in a way that only teenage daughters can manage. Oh and i love the combination of gasoline gun powder and carrot juice
Agreed, this is a panic move. Anybody remeber David Terrell playing defensive back for Michigan for a bit? I think that may have been against NW's spread. That did not go well.
And no, it did not go well. PB owned him.
At least he has that going for him.
Even if he wasn't going to ever take a snap at QB again, you could always use a guy who played four years at the position in the film room and the quarterback meetings to mentor the freshman who is supposed to be the program's future.
Back when the Colts best starting Safety was "Idrees Bashir", Peyton Manning would spend some time with the safeties in order to show them how to bait lesser QB's.
This is a MAC move... Darrell Hazell is clawing for answers.
At this point, Purdue would not be a good MAC team.
I was at that thrashing on Saturday against NIU and Purdue was god awful. I'm guessing that besides NIU, Bowling Green, Ohio, Toledo, Kent St and maybe even Western Michigan could beat them. MAC is a very good conference again this year
They would not beat Purdue. They lost at home to Nichols St. and got DESTROYED by Iowa.
Let's consult the heuristics:
You forgot to add the right before starting conference play thing.
but Purdue is already 0-1 in the BIGGGGG TTEEEENNNNN losing to Wisconsin 41-7 or whatever
Move your team's leading passer to safety halfway through his senior season. That's, um, something. I'm not sure a sarcastic "bold" quite covers this one.
Is that Nucky Thompson?
I wasn't as smooth back then.
We don't play Purdue this year :'(
Yes, I double checked the schedule to make sure. I honestly don't think they win a single game in the BigTen this year.
"That's what we're going to find out in the next couple of days," Hazell said when asked about how much Henry can contribute in the secondary. "If not, we know there are some things he can do offensively."
I think Hazell might be opening the door here for a move from safety to guard because obviously, from the appearance of things.
I'm actually speechless. Pardon me while I pick my jaw up off the ground
Purdue is now officially a Junior High team; a Junior High team we don't even get to play for Big Ten Conference win credit. I bet they'll still find a way to make the Ohio game close, though.
he can read the QB's eyes...
He may see this season as doomed (though I remember talk of the Rose Bowl) and therefore see it as worth putting the freshman in at QB so he can gain experience. Moving Henry to safety is presumably about getting your best 22 guys on the field. If Etling goes down, you can have Henry ready in a week, and Purdue isn't going to miss out on winning the division by just one game...I'd want Henry at QB to help Etling, but this isn't necessarily crazy.
Well, Purdue faces maybe the two best units in the conference in Nebraska's offense and MSU's defense in the next two games. This will probably go well.
I've seen the fallout from this kind of thing before... Which MSU QB was it that tore his ACL playing special teams?
Drew Stanton. God bless John L Smith
Glasgow to center was a bold move.... Boiler Up???
Guard to Center is to QB to Safety? Right.
I'd bet our punter could do it.
is going to lose a lot and by a lot no matter who plays safety.
What happens if the move makes two positions weaker instead of stronger?
of making ANY postion weaker for Purdue right now.
Can't believe nobody has referenced Michigan's similar move, against Purdue in 2008, in starting TE Carson Butler at Defense End. Purdue appears headed towards (at best) a similar year.
I mean, talk about arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic...
Glass houses people. Lets not forget that time we tried an even dumber position switch
Can't hold anything back.
I think that was just Sam McGuffie.
Alternate theory: they're doing it for the sake of his health. Perhaps they're caught in the delusion that moving to safety will save poor Rob from Perry the ACL-ephant.
Perhaps a move to the FCS would better suite them.
