OT - Pull Me Off the Ledge

Submitted by doughboy on
Annie, please tell me the sun will come out tomorrow!!! I'm having a hard time dealing with ALL of the bad news and poor records of our beloved sports teams. Over the past 25 years, I've always had ONE of the the big three to keep me upbeat, happy, pleasant to my fellow man and excited about "the next game.". But now, I don't know if it's the pending bleak days of winter on the horizon, or what, but I'm VERY depressed about my Michigan teams. This is the first time I'm caught counting on the "prospect" of positive results (via recruiting) then on the actual results of our current teams. I know this will all clear up and the skies will turn blue and the birds will chirp and the grass will look that brilliant shade of green. But until that happens... please someone throw me a friggin' bone. Sorry, but I had to get this off my chest. Thanks for letting me share and vent!! Maybe the Gods will hear our pain and smile favorably on us once again. If they don't.. Calgon, take me away!!!

It sounds sad, but I find myself looking for something else to fill the void left by Michigan athletics. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying that I am getting rid of my love for the program or anything. I'm saying that normally, Michigan athletics provide me with something that makes life easier. Something that helps me get through the days, weeks, and months of an occasionally dull and boring life. Right now, however, with all the of the big three teams having historically rough times, that comfort just isn't there. And I am left looking for something else to replace that comfort or else I risk falling into oblivion. But hey, there is nowhere to go but up. Right?

we've just been really lucky (in the general sense) to have had a university that's always been on top of its game. we'll be better for it on the other side of the downturn than we were before.

Put on the civil war, grab a beer, and pick a side. Just don't pick the wrong team. In your delicate condition, I don't want that on my hands. Honestly, I don't think you even have to pick a team to enjoy this one. College Football...America...Fuck yeah!!!

I think that everyone is looking past the recruits we have coming in. Remember all of the hype that Ricardo Miller, and Marvin Robinson had to start the past recruiting cycle? Then suddenly people kind of started saying they didn't deserve any of the hype, which means they could have gone from overrated to underrated. I think both of them could contribute right away. Also, don't forget that we snagged the number one player in the state of Ohio away from OSU in Justin Turner and he has been only getting better by red-shirting and watching from the sidelines. Not to mention Isaiah Bell could be a possible answer at linebacker if Mouton continues to be a liability in pass coverage. I'm also really high on Fitz and think he could be a solid option at running back. Big Will is going to continue to get stronger and in better shape. Also I'm hoping that the Ewing Theory is real and that we lose BG but improve on the whole as a defense. Continuity is also a good thing in that this will be the first time a few years that our D-Coordinator will remain the same.

Everything is ruined. Your hope is futile. Don't bother cheering yourself up, because you know it won't work. FML But if you need reassurance, at least we weren't living in Dresden ca. 1945. Feel better?

I stand by what I said in an earlier thread about this. That god only sent Michigan fans to hell so that when they got back to heaven they would finally appreciate it. (paraphrased from Kenny Powers).

Something weighty, primary, with a take on the human experience that is completely inapposite to obssession with college sports. E.g., Cormac McCarthy. (Challenge: read "Outer Dark" or "The Crossing" and try to reconcile those worlds with the notion that college sports, when all is really laid bare, can truly move us.)
