OT: Pryor removing his helmet after the failed 3rd down bomb

Submitted by Serth on

Did anyone catch Pryor removing his helmet after failing to convert the huge 3rd down bomb in the 4th quarter - the one right before his 4th down scamper to set up the winning TD?

I wonder why he wasn't flagged for that.  Thoughts?

Cue NCAA Bylaws:

(f) Removal of a player’s helmet before he is in the team area (Exceptions: Team, media or injury timeouts; equipment adjustment; through play; between periods; and during a measurement for a first down).

. . .
If committed while the ball is alive, these fouls are treated as dead-ball fouls.

PENALTY — Dead-ball foul or live-ball foul treated as dead-ball foul. 15 yards [S7 and S27] from the succeeding spot. Flagrant offenders, if players or substitutes, shall be disqualified [S47]. If a player or an identified squad member in uniform commits two unsportsmanlike fouls in the same game, he shall be disqualified

He's made some mistakes but FAR more big plays. Take off the tinted glasses and appreciate his talent. And his record.

I bet Denard would disagree with you, too. So would Coach Rodriguez.

You should respect your rivals, then compete with them and beat them. The failure to respect them is a sure path to defeat. I guarantee you Bo respected OSU and its players before he beat them.

He's very talented, but he would not have handled the losing well at all the past couple of years.  Maybe this team wins one or two more games over the past couple of seasons with Pryor at the helm, but 2008 would have been rough with a freshman signal caller behind that line, and those 2009 and 2010 defenses still would have featured a slew of undersized freshmen and "meh" upperclassmen.  Pryor strikes me as a guy with a massive ego, and ego guys hate to lose.  He'd have thrown the other players under the bus at the first hint of a losing streak, and probably would have been ostracized by the rest of the team rather quickly.  Personally, I'm very happy he never came to UM, and I said that well before he signed with OSU.

He'd failed to convert a pass so the play was over.  So really it wasn't a big safety at risk issue.  He can just say "I needed to adjust my chin strap" or something and claim the equipment adjustment exception of that rule.

Is it really surprising?  They didn't call anything on that screen where it was obviously pass interference, if not spearing as well.  I suppose the refs wanted to let the game be decided by the players and not calls.

Back on topic, I noticed it as well. Might they have called a timeout between 3rd and 4th down? I can't remember right now and I didn't dvr the game to go check what happened. Looking back on it right now, I would imagine that they did in fact call a time out just because everything was on the line.

He has a bad attitude. His best receiver drops a sure t.d. and the first thing he does is take off his helmut.  He has alot of talent but doesn't act much like a team player.

It was bout to be 4th and 10, and he was walking to the sidelines when he took his helmet off.  Pretty sure he thought they were going to punt (not unreasonable assumption given 4 mins left, all 3 TOs, midfield, Tresselball).  He always takes his helmet off while walking to the sideline - doubt it had anything to do with trying to "upstage" his WR as some have stated in this thread.
