OT: Pryor For Heisman

Submitted by Jedelman11 on
According to ESPN, Pryor is "blocking out the Heisman buzz" http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5101711 Tebow's Heisman: 32PassTD 6INT 23RushTD 66.9C% Bradford's Heisman: 50PassTD 8INT 5RushTD 67.9C% Pryor last season: 18PassTD 11INT 6RushTD 56.6C% I wonder if its because he needs to add about 20 more total TDs or because he needs to increase his completion percentage by over 10% to even sniff Tebow/Bradford Sure, tO$U is going to be good next season...and yeah, Pryor is bound to improve... but let me be the first to say "I'm not buying it" edit: added a couple more: Troy Smith: 30PassTD 6INT 1RushTD 65.3C% Matt Leinart 33PassTD 6INT 3RushTD 63.4C% Jason White 40PassTD 10INT 1RushTD 67.9C% Carson Palmer 33PassTD 10INT 4RushTD 63.2C% Average 34PassTd 8INT 2RushTD 65.0C% TP would still need to improve 16PassTD and 9C%

...really matter. The only stat that does is the number of mentions on ESPN analyst/columnist Heisman lists. That number is directly proportional to the number of OSU games broadcast on ABC/ESPN.

I'm backing his candidacy during the primary. I don't think his psyche can take it. He'll likely try to postpone the Michigan game for a month until he's ready.

Troy Smith tossed 12 TD's to four INTs in '05... ...then 30+ scores in 2006. This is because Tressel has two offenses. The Type 1 offense has been prevelant throughout his Columbus tenure: run the ball, play action, field position, let the defense do their thang. Sometimes, he'll tantalize by throwing a big play in here and there. The Type 2 offense occurs with an upperclassman QB, veteran blocking, and top notch skill players: KILL KILL KILL mode. Big plays in the pass game and a strong runningback tandem. This is when Tressel gives his O the green light to go nuts. Smith's senior season was an example. More than anything, I'm curious to see if Tressel will take the chains off this fall (I'm betting he will).

And it didn't exist because Tressel flipped a switch. It happened because there was a Heisman winner at quarterback, two 1st rounders at wide receiver, and an offensive line that could keep its quarterback's jersey clean against most (sigh) defenses.

he tried to start this buzz by wearing eye black... just like Tim Tebow. unfortunately he didn't put the word of god but... instead... thought "flip it on 'em" and did the first thing he though of when he thought dog

The Lions are blocking out the Super Bowl buzz. The Spartans are blocking out the "too many good guys to win" buzz. Dontrelle is blocking out all the Cy Young buzz. Creed is blocking out all of that Grammy buzz. Good luck TP, we're all rooting against you...

Pryor has all of the physical tools to win a Heisman. If he puts everything together mentally, he'll have an incredible season. It's a rather large if, but it's definitely in the realm of possibility.

unfortunately sometimes those "ifs" come true. I remember thinking the same thing about Vince Young when in saw him play UM at the Rose Bowl. He had all the physical tools, but seemed to be missing something upstairs. Then he put it all together, won the Heisman, beat USC, and made Leinart look dumb for not leaving as the consensus #1 pick. **Hooray for his sanity** That being said, his mental health is still up for debate after the stories about his car rides, guns, and possibly suicidal thoughts. So what does this all mean? Basically, if Pryor can put it all together mentally we might be looking at the next Vince Young (college). If he can't we might be looking at the next Vince Young (pros)

While I implied that ... I guess I never really said it. I see best case scenario 2010 Pryor as a clone of 2005 Vince Young. 2005 VY: 26PassTD 10INT 12RushTD While TP could be that good, he could lead his team to a national championship (lord I hope he does not), and might even be arguably the most talented player in the country he is not going to have the stats to win the Heisman. There is almost always someone with either 1) a monster statistical season or 2) "that guy" on "that team" ... Smith, Crouch, Ingram Basically: someone is going to be the Reggie Bush to TP's Vince Young

This year's race could be good. Ingram could get it again, but Richardson is sick and will play a lot. Mallett could win. Dion Lewis from Pitt is a darkhorse.

I think Pryor could win the Heisman. That being said I hope that Michigan can go into Columbus and do to the Buckeyes what Tim Biakabutuka did to them in '95 when Eddie George won the Heisman. If that happens Pryor can have all of the Heisman's he wants.

Not to be critical of anyone here, but am I the only one that feels ripping on Pryor is akin to Sparty ripping on Mike Hart? Bottom line is Pryor is 2-0 against us with a 63-17 scoring advantage. I can't stand the kid either, but right now he owns us.

I think after he shows that Heisman talk is clearly not warranted, Pryor for Heisman shirts would be a good idea for M fans. Maybe even before if we can in some way put added pressure on an underachiever. Edit: I would also add that the success of lack thereof for tOSU will be determined by their defense rather than TP and the sweater vest offense.
