OT: Problems with Michigan adidas apparel

Submitted by illinoisblue on

I don't know if this has been covered or not recently, but I'm wanting to vent a little. Has anyone else noticed the quality of Michigan gear going down the toilet since it switched from Nike to Adidas. I have stuff from 05 and 06 that are still in better condition then the crap that i have received in the last year. My official 2010 t-shirt is so faded its hard to read. The same goes for a couple other t-shirts and sweatshirts I have. Is it just me or have others talked about this and I've failed to see it?

I know it's not going to happen anytime soon but I'd like to see them explore other options whether it is going back to Nike or trying Under Armour or something else. If nothing else this little rant helped me out. Thoughts?

You should never use hot water, or bleach, or too much soap, should always turn inside out, and should always hang dry them. Driers take a lot out of clothes. Cutting the drier out alone will add years of life to your shirts. Plus, it is cheaper to air dry, and is "green," for those who care.

The other thing, as noted above, is there is a difference in quality . . . everything from the fabric, to the stiching, to the dye, to the ink used in screen printing. I got a cotton M baseball cap at Moe's two years ago, and it looks awful now. Next time around, I will look for a wool/poly blend and an exact fit.

Speaking of fit, some shirts are just cut right to your body. It happens that my basic Adidas neon yellow Michigan T fits perfectly . . . it is plenty long for someone who is tall, has plenty of room. I have worn and washed it repeatedly, and it still looks good (well, other than the small chocolate stain from ice cream at the Holland State Park beach last year.) Seriously, I have several other T-Shirts that just weren't made as well and don't fit as well. If you take good care of your Adidas wear, it should last a long time and look good.

You don't take your Michigan gear off before eating something messy?  Wow, time to start questioning your fandom.

More seriously, I am impressed so many people on here take such good care of their clothes.  My laundry philosophy is "survival of the fittest" in the washer and dryer.  Then again no one ever seeks me out for sartorial advice.

I agree with the sizing issues, with the addidas gear i need to buy xxl for sweatshirts and longsleeve shirts and xl for t-shirts. I am not that big that i need xxl.

The other issue I have is that the clothing is cheaply done. It seems the majority of sweatshirts and outerwear are screenprinted. When we were with Nike I seem to remember a lot of sweatshirts and etc having some embrodery on it.

I definitely buy less of the "cheaper" items like tees. The track jacket is the best thing they do but I am looking forward to getting a home jersey with the Block M on the back collar. I disagree with those that don't see it as much more neon-maize than the Nike stuff. I am looking at my "All In..." and "Michigan Football" tees I bought in 2009 and they are appreciably more bright. I HATE the futurisic font they use on half their crap and would love to see our caps less WalMarty.

Current contract with Adidas goes through the 2015 season, and Brandon has openly stated that he won't break the current contract.

To put the length of the contract in perspective, we MIGHT be lucky enough to see Shane Morris play 2 seasons (2016 and 2017) in a Nike jersey, and that's IF he redshirts.

My Nike shirt is 4 years old and is still my favorite shirt, fits great...but the new adidas tshirts i get (UofM & WMU) shrink and the back of the shirt protrudes out making it look like theres an umbrella hanging over my ass

I bought a maize shirt with just a navy block M, washed it once, the M faded into Bolivia.  Didn't realize I'd get a worn-look in just 3 days.
