OT: Problems with Michigan adidas apparel
I don't know if this has been covered or not recently, but I'm wanting to vent a little. Has anyone else noticed the quality of Michigan gear going down the toilet since it switched from Nike to Adidas. I have stuff from 05 and 06 that are still in better condition then the crap that i have received in the last year. My official 2010 t-shirt is so faded its hard to read. The same goes for a couple other t-shirts and sweatshirts I have. Is it just me or have others talked about this and I've failed to see it?
I know it's not going to happen anytime soon but I'd like to see them explore other options whether it is going back to Nike or trying Under Armour or something else. If nothing else this little rant helped me out. Thoughts?

I am currently wearing a nike yellow long sleeve t-shirt in great shape. I have not had the best of luck with the new adidas gear either.

I don't mind most of it. I do hate the placement of the giant logo though. My last years T still looks great other than the giant out of place adidas logo right under my neck.

I agree on the fading. I've recently resorted to washing all of my shirts in cold water and it has helped with the fading.
September 6th, 2011 at 1:00 AM ^
For just this reason. I wash the shirts I care for in cold water, on a short cycle, and I only dry them for about 10 minutes on medium or medium-high heat. I then hang dry from there.
This helps both fading and shrinking.

Same here. I only hang-dry my shirts. It's one of the many things I'm super OCD about.
But I think the M-Den Shirts should come pre-shrunk, that way there would be no worries about shrinking at all.

It shrinks?

We signed a deal with Adidias and that is it! If you do not like the Adidias MICHIGAN gear, DON'T BUY IT!! I have some Adidias stuff from 08' and it still looks great and some look bad. Clothes fade - It happens!! I love Nike, but since MICHIGAN is with Adidias, i am wearing it!!
GO BLUE!!

It ALWAYS displays your HIGH LEVEL analytical skills when your RESPONSE is simply, if you DON'T LIKE something, then DON'T watch/listen/purchase/fornicate with IT.
BUT, in THIS CASE, if a Michigan fan wants to BUY MICHIGAN GEAR, it is somewhat difficult to avoid ADIDAS. It's not like we can just go into a TIME MACHINE to buy a NIKE SWEATSHIRT.
So I guess this is the REALLY RARE CASE where the uber-sophisticated 'DON'T LIKE IT THEN LEAVE' argument make you sound like an IDIOT.

I washed my brand-new season tee yesterday, after wearing it on saturday for the first time and the color looks darker and faded. Not that bright yellow anymore.

I personally like the Adidas stuff. Their large fits me better than literally every other shirt brand I've ever worn, so I think that makes me partial. Also, I have the 1/4 zip pull over, a sideline polo, and the pique pants from last year and I love them. Those three pieces of clothing are some of the favorite's that I have.

You can get good stuff from Columbia's sports wear division that holds up well. Also the New Agenda and Champion stuff holds up decently well. Although everything from New Agenda and champion is less than a year old. Maybe someone with older gear can comment on how it holds up long term.
Adidas baseline stuff is really bad though. The Climacool and high end lines holds up well, but your basic teeshirts fray and wash out really fast.

I've had a gray Champion tee that, with regular wear and washing, has held up since 1998. Owes a lot to cold wash cycle, low dryer temp, and washing inside-out.

The burgerpimp is dead on. I always wash & dry my shirts inside out on cold/cold and use the lowest heat setting on the dryer. This definitely helps with the fading and longevity of the shirt.
I do agree with the low quality of the adidas gear but unfortunately we're stuck with it.

You can always buy from the Victorias Secret pink college apparel line.
September 6th, 2011 at 8:33 AM ^
I know you said it for teh lulz, but they have major quality issues as well (geez, step it up sweatshops!)
I've also found their lines kind of hideous and generic for the past 2 years, and haven't even bought anything on clearance for a while. http://www.victoriassecret.com/pink/university-of-michigan

Where have you been?

I was interning this summer, got my motorcycle license and bought a hedgehog, but now I'm just slacking off while this professor re-teaches vectors to an auditorium of aerospace upperclassmen. It's a first day of classes tradition.

I just hadn't seen you post in quite a while.

Or it didn't happen.

Is the ridiculously long sleeves on the legacy jersey. The jersey looks great over shoulder pads, with the sleeves tucked in, so of course Adidas makes the fan version have extra-long sleeves that completely distorts the look when compared to what we see on the field.
Also, the maize on those jerseys is radioactive. Maize my ass...I mean, I'd never eat corn that was that color. Again, based on pictures and video, the version the players will wear look *much* nicer and have a true-er maize color (although still a different shade than 5+ years ago).
September 6th, 2011 at 7:16 AM ^
Nike's maize wasn't much different at all. I have a Nike maize shirt and the shade of maize is almost the exact same.

Wash shirt with cold water, medium permanent press or gentle wash cycle. Don't overfill the soap dispenser, either. Just a touch will do for a normal load.

That's just asking for a lawsuit. George Lucas is very protective of the animated clone wars series my eight year old loves.
September 6th, 2011 at 7:05 AM ^
No thank you. Nike is about as cheesy as pop evil these days. I actually think the adidas gear has better quality as well. Don't dry your jersey in the dryer.
September 6th, 2011 at 7:39 AM ^
I had issues with last years long sleeve shirts. Both of my shirts have begun to tear at the seams along the wrist and under the arms. I now just wear them as workout gear.
September 6th, 2011 at 8:05 AM ^
Get with the times and spring for the good stuff and u will have no problem. Otherwise go hang with 1990...
September 6th, 2011 at 8:08 AM ^
new adidas shirt for this season was the maize shirt with the big blue block M on the front. I've washed it once and it looks like it lost a little color in the blue part, but from now on going to try the cold water/hang dry method. Thanks !
September 6th, 2011 at 8:24 AM ^
is they would come out with a winter jacket every year and they were usually really cool. Adidas hasn't come out with one yet.
With the amount of money they're getting from Adidas and I believe it was a pretty long contract, I don't see them going anywhere.
September 6th, 2011 at 9:02 AM ^
Cue the "All Apparel is Exactly Alike" and "Since Nike gave Pro Combat to some Teams it's just Blatantly Obvious We Would be Next" Nazi's.
September 6th, 2011 at 9:56 AM ^
The only complaint I have had with adidas is the inconsistency in sizing in 2009 and 2010. Larges were huge and mediums were too small. But that has been fixed recently.
Nike has gone off their rocker with the constant rebranding and the ugly pro combat uniform. And Under Armour decided that they don't want to be out done with their uniforms (see Maryland last night...ugh). I like adidas the most right now.
September 6th, 2011 at 9:17 AM ^
I am completely fine with Adidas, would rather have Nike, but it doesn't eat at me every time I put on the clothing. I think someone said it up a little further, but the higher end Adidas clothing does hold up pretty well. Under Armour though? No thank you.
September 6th, 2011 at 9:44 AM ^
I would wash everything in cold water, inside out and hang dry. Especially if you have a tee with a lot of print on it. The key is washing inside out to protect the printed areas. Anything that's 100% Polyester should not shrink, i.e. Polos, climalite shirts, etc. I would wash those inside out as well and hang dry them. If you do these simple things there should be a notable difference.
