OT: Preakness Stakes

Submitted by MAgoBLUE on
I know there is some interest in the ponies on here so who do you like today? I will be heading down to my local track for most of the early races leading up to the main event Preakness. It should be a lot less crowded than Derby Day which I will appreciate. Hopefully I can get a black eyed susan or two. 5 MGoPoints to the user who can name the official drink of the Belmont without looking it up. I don't know what my play will be yet. It depends on how I do in the early races. I was also hoping to steal some wisdom from you guys. This is a web site I use frequently for sports gambling advice. They do a nice write up on the race: http://www.covers.com/articles/articles.aspx?theArt=274863 The Baltimore Sun has the rundown on all of the days races. Also, a writer named Templeton is doing a very interesting series on the homeless in the city: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/horse-racing/preakness/bal-2012-prea…

Well the "new" official drink is the Belmont Breeze. Pretty sure it used to be the White Carnation or something? Either way, I like Bodemeister this afternoon.

The fastest horse on a fast track in a short race, starting from a good position.  And I picked Shackleford last year.

you are actually under-selling how much better and faster Bodemeister is than the rest of this year's class. He is leaps and bounds more talented than the rest, and should win in a walk today, barring injury or a bad trip. We all know the fastest and best horse does not always win of course, but if I had a way to bet this I'd put a lot on Bodemeister.

While I think Bodemeister will win, Teeth of Dog is a good sleeper.   The one thing that impresses me about this horse is the fact after winning his first race, he was quickly placed with Grade I company, and he competed well finishing 3rd out of 8 horses. To me he is a solid contender with the connections showing so much confidence to throw him in with Grade I competition like that.  Daddy Nose Best is another good sleeper, imo, as he returns his normal jockey back I believe.

I will still root for I'll Have Another, as I always root for the Triple Crown if I don't have money on it.

They are expecting over 110k today because it is beautiful so don't expect it to not be crowded.  I know nothing about horse racing but I like went the day well and bode today.  Also if pimlico is your hometown track put some money on tiger walk, he's a maryland horse owned by the ceo of under armour and at 30-1 the hometown pride could pay off a little bit

I will definitely be drinking some Black-Eyed Susans today.

I was at the Kentucky Derby, and I didn’t expect to see I’ll have Another win that race. Today, however, should be different. Bodemeister will set his own pace (unlike the derby) and if Mike Smith can hold him back he should win. Still, the race could go to I’ll Have Another, Went the Day Well, or Creative Cause—and the best part is a long shot could come out of nowhere and take it home.

I like WENT THE DAY WELL to win over BODEMEISTER and then I'LL HAVE ANOTHER.

That's the trifecta I bet anyway. I picked 1-3 of a superfecta for a derby. Missed the 4th. Would have won 6 figures! Gah.

I hit the exacta last year with Shakleford and Animal Kingdom.

Nothing against the horse Bodemeister, but (even though I know little about the man) for some reason, I enjoy seeing Bob Baffert squirm after his horse loses!

...and seeing first "I'll Have Another" 's Owner, Family and their friends, and then watching Baffert and his bunch, I'm even more happy that IHA won and Baffert's horse lost .

You saw a horse that refuses to lose.

I am a believer!  Bodemeister, a superior horse on paper, was beaten.

I'll Have Another Triple Crown, please.

Our first since Affirmed in 1978.  And fittingly, it was an Affirmed versus Alydar match race then, as it is I'll Have Another versus Bodemeister in 2012.
