I kind of like it, I've noticed there are no toys to buy for young children to make them Michigan fans.  I mean I'd probably buy a few mini-Wolverines, and it wouldn't hurt to have them on the sidelines to amuse the kids at the game, and I think it makes Michigan seem more "professional" and could helps with recruits who are just using college football as a stepping stone to the NFL.

There are a half-dozen or more different styles of Michigan-garbed plush teddy bears; at the M Den right now you get a free "UTL" teddy bear with a $200 purchase:

So the notion that there aren't any cuddly M things to buy for kids is wrong.

Next, if you think that it might make the atmosphere of Michigan football more "NFL," I suppose that you are right, although NFL mascots are all mostly so awful that collegiate mascots look good by comparison.

But if you suggest that it ought to be a goal of Michigan football to present an NFL game-day experieince, I could not disagree with you more.  My default decision-making, absent any better reason, is that if the NFL does it, Michigan ought NOT to do it.

btw: Did the "Mascot Books" website crash?  Or did they pull it down?

"You can't get your picture taken with a Block M," he told the magazine. "Mascots are really embraced by the youth demographic and we want to take advantage of that, for all the reasons that are obvious."

...we disagree, Dave Brandon.

We need to think way outside the box for our certainly inevitable mascot.  I nominate these guys (they're not doing anything right now and could be had for cheap)

I want a live wolverine on our sideline, sparty and brutus would be intimidated by it. Those two furries look like they would get their lunch money stolen and be forced to lick dog poo by other mascots.

I'm really confused. I've been a Michigan fan since I was a kid, yet there was no mascot around to hold my interest. How the hell did I become a Michigan fan at such a young age if there was no mascot? It sounds like I defied all logic and reason.
