Pitt RB who had pushed a pile of would-be ND tacklers past the sticks for an apparent first down. However rather than pushing until the refs blew the whistleb giving him forward progress and the first down, he sought to keep going. Can't fault him for that you say? Well, he did not try to escape the tacklers to gain more yardage, rather, he started retreating back toward his own endzone and then just ran out of bounds without an player near him, leaving Pitt now two yards short of the first down. Bizarre.
