Good article earlier this week on the "two cornerstones" of the franchise.  They both don't sound like true leader types who give the effort of champions.   Has to drive a coach like SVG nuts.

Opponents have outscored Detroit by seven points per 100 possessions with both Jackson and Drummond on the floor -- a margin that would rank 29th among teams, per NBA.com.

The Pistons usually hide Jackson on the least-threatening wing player, a reprieve that draws shade from teammates -- including during an infamous players-only meeting in December, when a few guys hammered Jackson for his desultory play.

Move doesn't make much sense. It's not a "tank" move and doesn't get us any draft picks, it only makes us marginally better for the current year, and it provides some salary cap relief with the Green expiring but FAs don't come here anyway. It also leaves the team without any real long term option at PG.

Could just be a way for Pistons to resign KCP while not paying the luxury tax. The big question will Reggie Jackson ever be truly healthy again and return to 2015 form, nobody really knows that answer so makes it hard to analyze this move.

At this point I think pretty much any Reggie Jackson trade is going to be addition by subtraction. The trouble is the rest of the league knows this so we arent going to be getting any outstanding offers. Im surprised there are teams even that interested in taking on Reggie's contract and attitude.

Honestly IMO the best option is to hold on to Reggie right now and hope he is healthier in 2018. Right now you're selling him for 30 cents on the dollar and you have no reasonable plan/option to replace him long term.

And although the team might be marginally better without him this season, that likely only makes us the 7th-8th best team in the east, and equals a first round playoff exit.

That Zach Lowe article was pretty sobering, there's not a great trade market for our players, we don't have much cap flexability. At this point we just have to hope Reggie returns to form and Drummond figures it out and develops. Either that or blow it up and start over, but SVG isn't that type of GM/Coach and I don't think Gores would buy into that with Pistons moving downtown next year.

In case you didn't know, the Magic are AWFUL, especially at PG and Jackson actually would be an upgrade down here.

Elfrid Payton can't shoot to save his life and CJ Watson (the current starter) isn't exactly a world-beater. Even at the level he's playing now, I'd take Jackson over Watson/Payton anyday.

Send him on down!

He's just not gonna work out here. Maybe he'll thrive someplace else, who knows? That'd be great. It's not gonna happen here, though, so both parties should move on.

head case in Oklahoma but that didn't stop VanGundy from going after him and now apparently being surprised that things aren't working out well in Detroit.  I really wish they would get rid of both the coach and Jackson.

Pistons are trying to just give away Jackson at this point. Just hoping to find a team dumb enough to take on that salary for a bad player.

I think it's addition by substraction honestly. If you can get Augustin to back up Ish Smith and a stretch 4...why not?

I would just be trying to get a draft pick out of the deal. Get that and I'm all about it. But then again, I really don't care because I obsess over Michigan and just casually follow the NBA.

Smith/Augustin/Udrih

Caldwell-Pope/Johnson/Bullock

Morris/Green

Leuer/Harris

Drummond/Baynes

We're basically undoing the trade that got us Reggie to begin with, which was Augustin/Singler/two 2nds for Jackson.

I'll take it.  Addition by subtraction in removing a bad attitude.  The team played better with Smith.  We get a bit more versatile.  Augustin played well for the Pistons a couple seasons ago.

The only real downside is that the capspace from Green's 15 million expiring deal won't really help us, as anything opened up will go towards paying KCP.

It's not a coincidence that the defense went from one of the best to one of the worst when he came back. It was a bad signing. Guy is an inefficient ball hog who gets hot occasionally. His defense might be the worst of any starting guard in the league.

Drummond has been frustrating since Reggie came back. Drummond isn't a leader. He's easily impacted by his surroundings. He's been pouty since Reggie came back. Drummond was decent defensively when Reggie was hurt. He's given up on pick and rolls because Reggie does nothing defensively and Drummond doesn't know how to cover two guys.

Reggie is one of the worst contracts in the league. I can't believe Orlando would be this stupid. If they take Reggies horrible contract, it's one of the best trades of the year.

If Orlando wakes up and doesn't make this trade, Pistons need to bench Reggie. He makes everyone worse. He's wasted this season as every player regressed when he came back. It's not a coincedence that Tobias got better going to the bench and playing with Smith. It's not a coincedence that KCP and Drummond were better earlier in the season.

Dump Reggie. Pistons will get immediately better.
