he led some good nets teams.  its not a bad hire, and its someone from completely outside the previous few coaching staffs.  he should be able to command some serious respect from the players.

That doesn't even make sense.

It isn't like college sports where you recruit players for your system and those are your guys.. coaches just coach whoever the GM assembles on the roster.

Other than the year he was interim coach for Byron Scott in 2004 where you could argue he used Scott's sets and plays, he coached for 5 more seasons. Those were all Byron Scott's teams? That doesn't even make sense.

Sure he isn't a slam dunk hire, but IMO he was the best of the candidates that the Pistons interviewed.  He is well respected around the league and he has a lot of experience.

I kind of wish we still had Rick Carlisle. I think he may have gotten the team to win the title the same year as they did and I think the players wouldn't have revolted like they did with Brown.

This guy is legit. He had a solid run with the Nets a little while ago. he's coming from Doc Rivers' staff in Boston, the same staff that produced Tom Thibodeau (spelling?) who is doing some great stuff with the Bulls.

Also, he looks very young and small, especially when he's in an NBA huddle.

All in all, I really like the hire.

Unfortunately, there isn't much they can do with any of them. All 3 have terrible contracts & while rip's is at least coming to an end, charlie (one of the biggest wastes of talent ever) & ben still have 3 years left. As much as I hate to say it, they will likely both be here for a while.

Very good hire.  I think he was a much better candidate than Laimbeer, Kelvin Sampson and Mike Woodson.  Supposedly the vets in Boston really liked him and he was well respected in that locker room.  Combine that with experience and a little success and he's a definite upgrade.

He is a defensive minded coach. I think he is a solid hire. Nothing to blow the doors off the palace but is repected and will get them on the right track.

my 1st priority is to hire assistant coach who can develop PG. This is the next key hire. If Brandon Knight can be a quality PG, the Pistons will get back up to quicker than most would think.

so we refab a coach who has a regular season record below .500 and an even lower playoff win  %, not to mention not even making it his last two years then leading the nets to a 0-16 start in '09-10...not to mention he is 40 and looks like a ball boy.....Greg Monroe is going to be a second year player and looks like his grandfather! I think Frank will be a good coach sometime but this is not putting him or the pistons in a position to succeed. He was on the bench with Doc Rivers last year for a team that is on its deathbed, aren't we trying to avoid that though? Yes I hope we can have a youth movement but not sure this makes alot of sense....agree with previous poster...we'll be doin it all again in 3 years.

I don't doubt that Frank can be a good coach for the Pistons, but I hope for his sake that Joe shows patience with him. We've had what, 7 coaches the last 11 seasons? Something like that. Hopefully Joe can figure out what the hell to do with the roster as well.

Best thing about hiring Frank over Woodson is the sign that Dumars is either getting over his glory daze faze OR he now has somebody (Gores) who will go over his head anytime Joe gets the itch to relive 2004.

NBA is more about talent than coaching, at least to a certain extent.  There isn't a coach out there who could turn this roster into a good team.  More overhaul is still needed.

Whoever they hire is going to be fired before they get good again. If he's lucky, he'll get to coach the team to the point they're ready to make that final step, then they bring in a closer. But I don't think they're anywhere close to that.

Frank's known as a worker. Kind of reminds me of Spolestra but he's taken some lumps.  His Nets teams played the Pistons tough a couple times.
